Pipeline missions
Your new pipeline mission needs serious work. As a solo scout I rage-quit it because it is too frustrating to complete. The pipe tolerances are way too tight and I can't use a traversal tool while placing pipeline segments. This leads to long amounts of time spent ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with tunnels using a pick and trying to figure out how to route all the ♥♥♥♥. WTF were you guys thinking? What's with the "uneven ground" and "too steep"? Why do the pump jacks not have four connection sides instead of two? The goal should simply be to connect the pipes, all that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ just make the whole experience feel like a huge waste of time, especially solo.

I've played it solo a few times in Experimental, and was nowhere near as frustrated as you. Why would you be able to use your grappling hook while being in the middle of building?

Calm down.

It's a difficult game mode with teams and solo, but I've played tons of refinery scout solo over the last several weeks and nothing has been insurmountable. You need to give it more time. Also, I'm guessing you didn't give it much time at all and did your rage quit before you even gave it more than a couple of minutes. If you had even completed one pipeline you'd know that the pipes can be connected from any spot around the pumpjack. The connector ports spin to the correct position no matter where on the pumpjack you try to connect.

So with all due respect, once you've actually played a few missions rather than a few minutes, you'll be in a much better spot to make your judgment calls on it.

Sometimes I do if I want to play a specific mission and not host and wait for people to join. But usually I'll lower the difficulty a bit, and not complain when I lose.

Co-op game is awkward solo.

Shock.

Awe.

No way.

The new mission isn't hard for co-op. Probabbly hard for solo. Especially Solo Scout.

Pipeline missions almost definitely require a Driller to be much easier.

Reminding us all again that Driller is OP.

First, Driller class OP arguments can go right next the same arguments/threads for why each individual class is OP. Beyond that, Driller makes refinery easier, but by no means required. Every class has abilities that make specific circumstances easier. I deliberately took each class through solo refinery missions in experimental to try to break the game mode and there were absolutely no insurmountable pipe building mechanics that couldn't be tackled...except the days when the build had pipe building bugs that made pipe building not work right at all.

Hold up here, the pump jack rotates to the pipe no matter what direction you come from. Unless I have messed up my naming conventions.

I quit the mission after an hour into it. I had connected one, after building a tunnel to it. Trying to build one that was up a cliff, I finally said, screw it, it just isn't worth this much time. As a driller, I'm sure it would be easy. As a solo scout, this mission is the suck.

Cliffs. If I have the pump tool and need to build a segment, I have to make a tunnel first, because you can't build pipe and use a grappling hook too. For a Driller, no problem, for a Scout? Forget it, it's just a mess. They should have made it so that you press use to start the pipe segment and use end the segment instead of putting a new tool in your hand so that you can't use anything else.

Well, there's no question that the mission is much more difficult solo for all classes, but it's doable. They've loosened the restrictions on pipeline building considerable through the test period. Most of the time the issues can be solved with a few pick axe swings. It takes time to get a feel for the methods and strategies to get them built, but I'm not going to argue that high cave complexity missions will be extremely challenging for pipe building. But the only requirement for solo is that it's doable.

Engineer/driller work fine so just play one of those. No more problem.
Not every class is appropriate for every mission type solo. This was the case before the patch too.
I did two missions solo scout, it didn't seem that bad to me. In most cases, you wouldn't need to dig full tunnels, just enough chunks out of the wall to get "stepping stones" to place connectors.

I'm certain that there will be maps where you might need to just dig a tunnel. And doing so with a pickaxe would certainly be a time investment. But you make that decision for yourself when you load up a mission by yourself. Alternatively, if play Solo, you get out of the drop pod at the start, and the Central Platform drops in a place where you can see that it will be a nightmare to reach one of the oil fields, abandon before you spend the hour. Reroll the mission.
Or bring a different class, or play a different mission, or wait for the mission timer to shuffle the selection map, or set the game down for a while and come back later :conwayshrug:

Besides bugs, its definitely doable solo with all classes.

They already have a game mode without bugs, it's called Haz 1.
