I'd try to get as much as ammo as I possibly can given that it greatly reduces how many grenade launcher bombs you can carry.

Go for ammo only, you're trading the explosion for radiation AOE, as far as I know I don't think damage mods do much for it at all as most of it is damage over time.

heres a guide with variety for each weapon, some might be slightly outdated but good for a starting point

I hardly ever use the full load of ammo on fat boy. I spec it for the dot it does for the field and increased area of effect. It's important not to pop them off before checking for friendlies in the area so you shouldn't use it that often. Areas where it really really shines are in escort and morkite missions. There is a predetermined direction of attack from the waves so the fat boy is most efficient and effective there. For most other missions you might be better served using one of the other overclocks or secondary weapon.

All in all though I absolutely love the fat boy. Even while being blamed for team damage when all that is really happening is one of the radioactive praetorians are getting frisky.

I hate the Fat Boy. I'm honestly more scared of players with it than I am of the bugs. I'm running around kiting and trying not to die and WHUMP right next to me is a new hole in the ground and radiation is not nice either.

Lots of people are gonna tell you to just not use Fat Boy because of the friendly fire, and how often they get hurt/killed by other players using it.

I say use it all you want. The problem with its friendly fire is that people just don't seem to know how to use it. The more players we can convince to start using Fat Boy, the better the overall skill of players with it will become. I think.

Btw, it's amazing on Escort missions. You know how every time the dozer starts making a tunnel (that's oh-so conveniently about the diameter of a Fat Boy blast) and it just fills up with enemies? It's amazing. Plus you have the benefit of the dozer constantly moving, so risk of friendly fire is minimal.

Agreed, there is a time and a place for it. I just don't like how situational it is. too many times an area is too small and this weapon almost becomes one of the map hazards. It makes things interesting, thats for sure. Practice does make perfect, but I don't like being the hiker on the shooting range.

3/5 times people using fat boy they always get me killed, i hope you are not one of them

TBH i don't recall ever dying to a fat boy. Now C4 suicide, murder intentional or collateral otherwise has happen dozens of times.

A suggestion: the Friendly perk pairs very well with Fat Boy (same with Driller C4 actually) and (IMHO) you should be using Friendly if you use Fat Boy. Your mileage may vary.
