Deep Rock Galactic
Hazard 5 Escort Duty, Flying Rocks?
Seriously... what is up with these things? For reference, I'm playing Hazard 5 with a buddy at all times (not public, so only the two of us) and these rocks feels utterly impossible with how much damage they deal.

They seem to have too much health and deal waaaay too much damage. This mission went from a snoozefest to an infuriating experience. Even focusing both of our fire on them they still seem to get through, or we spend too much time on them that we let too many Glyphids on Doretta.

At least in teams of 4, I can't remember ever actually having any of the rocks ever hitting Doretta even playing Haz 5s with randoms. I can see where it might become troublesome with just a duo though.
Does anyone know if number of rocks scales to player count?

Sure seems to. Beamers and Rocks both seem to be about half or less when I've done solo vs full team Escort, though I've never counted.
It seems like they were bugged previously and didn't do anything (you know, besides fly around). Now they actually attack, and they HURT. They're definitely a huge priority target now.
Get a gunner.

Can't sustain fire long enough with the minigun, and even less so with the autocannon. Shield doesn't help against them either.
Engineer is really good at this actually, if you bring the breach cutter with plasma trail, myou can burn through multiple rocks fairly quickly, and they all conveniently groupmup above the drill dozer ;D and a couple gemini turrets do we work here too

As cheesy at sounds, If I'm gunner, before the entire boss battle begins I usually hop up on top of the heartstone and plant a zip line from there down to the ground behind the dozer (not necessary since you can hop on there from the dozer too). The gunner can stand on top and have clear line of site of all the rocks as they spawn. Autocannon still sucks for this, but better than doing it from the ground. Driller with good EPC skills can do some good rock damage from that point, too.

Really, I don't find the rocks to be that much of a challenge until Haz 5. Haz 5 is the only time where the rocks start spawning fast enough and thick enough that it can get tense, but I still have never at any Haz level had rocks hit Doretta in a team match before (not that I've noticed). I worry about the lasers and unfortunate det spawns a lot more.
I actually don't know what these rocks do? Do they hurt Doretta? I assume they do. I've never seen them do anything.

I always do that with the Gunner, feels like not enough people use it as a vantage point even though it's a good one. The only issue is getting distracted and getting hit by the shockwave, but it only does half of your health or so at most.

The rocks will slowly hover towards and above Doretta. If they are not destroyed, they will be DROPPED on Doretta. Avoid standing on Doretta if you suspect a rock is about to drop. Those things deal MASSIVE damage to you and the drilldozer.
use your shotgun
was on a 3 man mission in haz 4 and the rocks quite literally 1 shot someone, then proceeded to 1 shot me from full hp and shield when i tried to revive him
I play Gunner on Haz 4-5 and never seen a rock fall on the drilldozer ever. I just hang on the zipline and quickly destroy all the rocks faster than they can spawn.

Lmao this Adine guy keeps leaving comments on my profile and posts now, that's neat. Keeps deleting them too.
Key is to position you so you can watch doretta and attack the stones the moment they spawn. Most of the time best spot is behind doretta or on the ommoran.

Also lots of ammo and a somewhat decent range and dps.
