Plus, I've teamed with some exceptional greenbeards in my 360+ levels of gameplay.
honestly, haz 5 is actually easier than having to carry a bunch of low levels on haz 4 who just die constantly
haz 5 is locked behind an assignment which (i believe) requires a minimum level cap before you can start it. you're best off either just making the jump to haz 5 (which really isnt that much harder than haz 4) or hosting your own lobby and booting out anyone who isn't promoted
I agree it's a bit tiring, I don't mind helping new players but not 100% of the time, I think host need to be able to level lock, like level 50+ you know the player will have at least few upgrades for the weapons....( and know the basics)
i've been saying this for months now, the game needs something like promotion lock or a minimum level cap as an option for hosts creating their own lobbies
greenbeards stumbling into high hazard lobbies and getting booted out for their lack of experience will hurt them a lot more than simply not being able to join those lobbies in the first place
you could even turn the system on its head and add a maximum level cap if you don't want to deal with level 200 turbosweats like me joining your lobby and practically playing the game for you
of course every time i mention this, i get half a dozen bleeding hearts responding about stuff like gatekeeping(!) or elitism(!!!) when it doesn't even apply. it would only be "gatekeeping" if the game had a playerbase in the hundreds. there are plenty of lobbies to go around for the rookies, drg has thousands of players at any time. the amount of locked lobbies would pale in comparison to unlocked ones.
it would just benefit everybody if level caps were added - veterans and greenbeards alike would get to play with others of their own skill level. everyone is satisified
yeah a level filter would be decent so you know your playing with people within your rank level, benefits both sides of it with new players or like you said high ranked players just dominating the game.
The game is great, but the population is a bit lacking, so we take what we can get.
While i agree that its rare that a new player will do good on H4/5, imo the majority more or less figured it enough for H4 around prom 1/2.
Since you need 3 char level per 1 playerlevel, that would mean probably around plvl 10-20.
But i understand it can be frustrating if one's expectation is just to have a good fun with 3 other teammates who know at least a thing or two about the game and their class. But it's not the end of the world if they don't, fortunately.
We probably shouldn't limit it, but if we do... let it not be higher than level 5~10.
After that point, if you get a player who isn't very good, they'd still probably not be much better if they were level 100.
On the other hand you'd be missing out on level 10 players who can already take on Haz 5.
Personally, I watched a lot of streams and youtube videos before starting. However, other people should not have to go through that amount of research, and as a result likely don't know how half of the mechanics work. A lot of the times, the other low level player couldn't figure out how to reach the map or know what an objective resource looks like. As I mentioned in the part you clipped out, most new players don't have the confidence that comes from experience, to run solo.
Our preference is actually to look for the lowest haz version of an assignment mission, so that we can get them done quickly and get our upgrades. But again, if you're the ONLY mission available in the search result, guess which one we're going to join?
Exactly, this game falls more within the casual genre than the hardcore genre. That doesn't mean it can't be challenging, but it's not like Haz 5 (and even modded Haz 6) hold a candle to the hardest games out there.
