Are there secret caves? Should I drill tunnels..
Obviously we know that dirt blocks open up a passage way to a cavern, but what if an engineer were to just simply drill as far down as he can go. Has there been anyone who's stumbled into anything neat? I spent 15 minutes drilling and all I came up with was either dirt or worthless rock.

There are no secret caves, only blocked passageways and your map shows what rooms are near by if you are by a wall. At that point its just a near by room that can be reached normally by a passage way. The only times there are "secret" caves are when you find a Lost Helmet and once you finish scanning you get a "secret" cave added to your map that you have to go find. Drilling all the way down is just a waste of gas.

You're disappointed that the game is actually a game and not a time-wasting tool like minecraft? Well, to each their own.

You've played for 3 hours... Like 90% of the game content is left untouched. But who knows, maybe it's just not your cup of tea. Can't argue with honest feelings.

Don't know what kinda game you thought this was, then. Did you just see "destructible terrain" and assume it was like Minecraft? The terrain is destructible for a number of reasons, but "exploring willy-nilly for random gems" is not one of them. Although sometimes there ARE gems you have to dig for, but they're always marked on at the surface by glowing bits.

99% positive Steam ratings don't lie, this game is incredibly fun and worth your value, I'd give it more playtime than you have before making a decision. Likely you haven't even progressed enough to unlock Matrix Cores, Overclocks, Deep Dives, or the alternate weapons either.

Hasty judgments are never good unless you're 100% sure the game repulses you, as in, it's just not your type of game. This game is more akin to Vermintide or Left for Dead, a co-op wave-based shooter/survival game with light foraging and building elements. And most people who've played both those games tend to agree it's better than both of them.

But you've only spent 3 hours on the game? I doubt you have explored everything the game has to offer in the early stages.

No offense but I think that "not being able to find secret caves" is a petty reason for why you dont want to continue playing the game.

edit: Try give the game atleast 10 or so hours. Early assumptions aren't good.

There's one event where you find a helmet you can scan. Once you do you get a marker on your mini map that leads to a very small secret cave with loot. But it doesn't spawn every mission and is pretty much impossible to find without the marker.

A lot of missions, especially non linear mission types like egg hunts, feature several big caves that can often more efficiently be navigated between by drilling through the wall instead of the dirt patches. You got to read your terrain scanner to find opportunities for these kind of shortcuts.

But yeah, if you just want to drill in a straight line mindlessly in hopes of finding something this is not the game for you. Drilling is about precision and reading the terrain scanner in DRG.

On two occasions, once on a oil rig and once on a drilldozer map, I found a secret cave. There is 100% caves that are totally disconnected from the rest of the map and do have resources in them. Both times they were large oval shaped rooms with high ceilings and nearly completely flat floors. Both times they spawned above the intended play area, far above the ceiling. Never found these types of chambers on any other level type, so I assume it has something to do with these two game modes being newer. Only way you could even see them on the terrain scanner is if you went right up to the ceiling. Both times this happened we couldn't finish the secondary objective without them!

Just for clarification, the community determined back in March that the Lost Pack room doesn't exist until you interact with the Lost Helmet; then the game spawns the room and marks it on your scanner.

You're right, it is nearly impossible to find if you do not look for the marker on your scanner once the Helm is activated. But it is 100% impossible to locate if you have not activated the helm yet and there is no marker.

Sounds more like errors with terrain generation rather than intended behavior. It's something that the devs are constantly tweaking and fixing; you can see it all the time in patch notes. "Fixed terrain generation for..." x, y, or z.

So every once in a while, yes, the game will have goof-ups.
And sometimes the cave generation will do something silly like causing a small bubble-of-a-cave to be separated from the larger parent cave (more common in Dense Biozone, in my experience), which can occasionally hide a mineral vein or a boolo cap or something.
But it's not intended behavior, like the OP seems to be asking about.

You should play this game more cuz its much better from minecraft, but is ok to decide different.

The 'secret loot' from helmet gear as above, i never forget in point extraction mission when a driller dig a route to get aqua and later we found a lost helmet and was open near that driller hole lol

That just spawned in there and not was earlier.

This fun game still x999x9999T better from minecraft :p
Try enjoy from it.

Past week was a deep dive when there was a 'secret place' cuz no route was to go there. Glad i was driller and reached there fast enough and go back to my team.

Is this thread a joke lol?

Who would want someone wasting a bunch of time drilling in random directions in a lobby based co-op shooter?

Never know if is trolling cuz he own the game just didnt played much.
If he pay for it or its gifted to him, we dig is fun and the end is BedRock lol, maybe he can answer to it.

I Still like the game as it. :)

For OP try play in sand corridor map cuz its faster and easier to dig the sand :p

Very long ago haf a mission in there as gunner, could not go back to main route to pod, spreaded from all team, some1 called the pod and i had to dig with my pickaxe like 200m to see the 3 others are dead and time running out to evac lol

One of many reasons why this game is awesome

Honestly, I didn't do much research into the game before buying it. From what I saw in the trailer, I thought you explore a rock planet with up to 4 players drilling into procedural game generated maps trying to find as much rare minerals as well as completing objectives.

From my play experience last night, my play time was merely a rehash of the following games.. 1.) Protect an oil refinery. 2.) Escort a drill through danger. 3.) Collect some alien eggs.

Don't get me wrong it was fun and I'm not trying to bash the game, it just got a little redundant after a while. It lost its challenge. I saw numerous teams just blazing thru the caverns blasting away alien life like it was nothing coming out unscathed from damage. Maybe I need to play the hardest difficulty map, and I intend to do so seeing as I can't return the game due to play time now.. I just think it would be cool if the developers would allow for players to be able to deviate from objectives to explore potential loot caverns filled with dangerous cliff faces, volcanic terrain, lava, etc..

Maybe I should find a minecraft game that is similar to this one, that has the things I want - anyone have any recommendations?

Chibbity Dec 3, 2020 @ 6:58am
You played 3 hours and thought it was redundant?

You prolly played on Haz 2-3 and say it's too easy?

I mean, to be fair; I think you're jumping to an awful lot of conclusions based on very minimal experience.
