-Yes the game is widely known for being cross-platform capable. Placing in small font on the website, "*Xbox One and Windows 10 Support Cross Play. Steam Version does not support it. " is really insufficient.
They've effectively split their product into multiple versions that all don't have the same features or capabilities...To make matters worse - Many players who have shown their support by purchasing the early-access are effectively being told that in order to enjoy the features they want, they'll have to purchase the game all over again through the "Microsoft Store".
If they are going to sell a "Steam Version" of the game that in any way revokes or does not have the same capabilities or feature(s) as the "Windows 10" or "X-Box" Versions than they are creating major headaches and problems for themselves and the game's playerbase down the road. I've already seen many other threads echoing the same frustration with the missconception that this game is cross-platform when in fact, the steam version is not.
Again, placing a small factoid in tiny font and a line in the FAQ is insufficient. They need to fix this by either making the Steam Version cross-platform capable by full release, or be providing steam purchasers and early-access supporter with keys to the "Windows 10 Version" that will allow them the features many in the playerbase want.
Also, like I said before, the playbase on PC will also be split because of this, which will undoubtably do more harm than good to the overall playerbase and game development.
"28th Feb 2018> Deep Rock Galactic is now available In Early Access on Steam, and in Game Preview on Xbox One and Windows 10 as a Play Anywhere Title!"
Only as you scroll past ads and images at the bottom in tiny font does it say:
"*Xbox One and Windows 10 Support Cross Play. Steam Version does not support it."
That's missleading and not cool. The title makes it sound as if you can "Play Anywhere", but then after you buy it and can't figure out why it isn't working are you ill-informed that you have to purchase the game all over again from somewhere else to enjoy "cross-platforming".
Unacceptable.
The only reason Xbox and Windows are crossplay is because they are both owned by Microsoft.
"Caveat emptor" Buyer beware. The onus is on you to properly research something before buying it.
and no dev was ever asked about it
Steam has ways of handling these issues; already mentioned.
Because it is advertised as crossplatform on another platform doesn't mean it will be here.
That said I wish Microsoft weren't so stuck up and would let crossplatform happen (since it's their decision) because that means more lobbies - more player variety - more chances to find a suitable/nonlaggy lobby.
Because Microsoft and Valve are not "good buddies."
They are two seperate legal and business identities, and they aren't going to pal up and share and play nice.
That's just not how it works.
There’s a LOT of hate coming from folks who don’t have friends and family that game on X-Box. Sorry, but not everyone I know can afford to play on PC, especially not when they can get a used Xbox that plays what they want for $250-$300 bucks at decent quality. It may not be the way you prefer to game, but believe it or not, console gamers strongly outnumber PC gamers, and typically it is due to the sheer cost. Even when building your own rig, very rarely can you build a PC at the same quality the can mass produce their economic systems at.
I’m a PC Gamer, before the hate begins to get worse - I prefer PC Gaming, but as I said, many of my friends and family can’t afford it.
Getting off track - Back to this topic:
Don’t care who to blame as there is plenty to go around, but they need to make it more clear to interested customers that it is NOT cross-platform playable on steam - and more than having to dig and do research. There are tons of advertisements, and game reviews that brag about Deep Rock Galactic’s fluidity and it being a real contender for cross platform gaming.
Now that I made the mistake of buying a game after hearing all about it’s cross-platform capabilities, I am out $24 bucks because of that misconception.
My fault? Ultimately...yes. Is it fair? Not really. The fact the game has a major feature like that stripped from it on steam, should warrant a large ⚠️ warning next to the purchase button. Or at least something besides a tiny footnote or obscure FAQ, written exclusively for the Steam version.
To put things in a bit more of my own perspective, I’ve been a loyal gaming customer with steam for more than 14 years. Take a look at my service date on my profile. I’ve spent thousands of hours and bucks on gaming over the years. I asked for a refund because of this and they denied me. I asked again, thinking maybe they’ll at least consider giving me store credit - nope...
“You’ve played this game more than 2 hours which is beyond the point at which we generally allow it...”
The moment I found out it was no longer cross platform on steam, I quit playing it. Probably have around 6 hours or so on it.
Considering the fact that I’ve almost never asked for a refund or any sort of customer service request in the decade plus I’ve been using steam, that is all around greedy and bad business.
I know I will be called an idiot by some of you, but either way they’ve had an opportunity to step it up and fix this, or at least make things more clear. Not doing so, and profiting off of it is shameful and ill regraded.
I am not the only one who has made this mistake, as I’ve already seen others who are enduring the same frustration and are now $24 bucks lighter because of it.
I’ve announced this is a problem on an open discussion, and reported it twice when I claimed for a refund. Not to mention I’ve even e-mailed Ghost Ship Games about it. If someone wants to make things right, they can’t say they weren’t told about it nor didn’t have the opportunity.
There’s not a good one. People want to make money now, instead of realizing the bigger picture and market they could have if they worked together more rather than against one another...
Some of us have “kiddies” or want to interact with friends and family who can’t afford PC gaming. This is coming from a man who has been a PC Gamer since DOS commands and text based computer games.
When you say “We don’t want” what you mean is “You don’t want”.
After all I am part of the “We” you mentioned and I disagree with you.
I’m not saying they have to force crossplatforming, but enabling it as an option would be nice for a large portion of us who want to game with our console friends and family.
