Deep Rock Galactic
I need some clarification on the player rank system.
I picked this game up after the 1.0 launch which means I wasn't around during DRG's EA phase so if I'm missing something crucial here, please inform me.

I'm a little confused about the player rank system and why I'm seeing people with ranks in the 4 digits. I could just assume that they cheated but I've seen people say that player ranks that high can be achieved legitimately.

I went to the wiki and it says that the max player rank is 33 if you don't promote any dwarves, which makes perfect sense because it also states that 1 player rank is equal to 3 dwarf levels.

25 levels * 4 dwarves = 100 levels / 3 = 33.33 player rank

With this in mind, there are 6 promotion tiers (bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, legendary) and 3 stars per promotion tier. If you were to reach level 25 legendary 3 stars for each dwarf, the highest possible player rank should be 633.

25 levels * 3 stars = 75 levels
75 levels * 4 dwarves = 300 levels
300 levels * 6 promotion tiers = 1800 levels

You'd also have to account for the initial 25 levels for all 4 dwarves before their first promotion.

1800 + 100 = 1900 levels

That leaves you with:

1900 levels / 3 = 633.33 player rank

Did I fudge the numbers? Can you still promote even after reaching 3 star legendary? Was the leveling system in EA different, resulting in long time players with weird ranks? How can someone have a legitimate player rank above 633?

Yes you can promote forever and your miner level keeps going up.

Well I guess that's a wrap then. Thanks for the quick reply.

easiest way to tell cheated players is the game time anything under 1300 hours over lvl 1000 is likely cheated or they were very early access players that got in all good xp back in the hayday. the xp ranks as they are now its actually harder to get higher levels than it used to be per time spent in game just due to all the sweet xp bonuses you could get have been patched out. the old pre alpha players can easily be in the 800s. the system as it is now you likely need 1600-1800 hours starting out today as lvl 1 to reach rank 1000 assuming maximum xp gains each match.

I'd imagine that anyone with some absurd rank like 3k+ would be cheating then.

Hours to level ratio is typically 2:1.

Not a gold standard, but a pretty good rule of thumb.
