Discord mods seriously need to calm down
I just noticed I got banned from the DRG Discord server for saying mods were being rule fetishists with how overzealous they are with enforcing the off-topic talk rule in the game discussion channel. Anyone who has been there for some time knows how it goes - someone mentions another game in comparison to DRG, or the conversation mentions something else with the DRG game experience as context, a few mods crawl out of the walls and mob the poor guy. And my recent experience taught me something I'd like to share with everyone: do not intervene, trying to help is not worth it and will bring the wrath of the moderators (and some sycophants) upon you. Just a word of warning, and so much for the "friendly community".

I "think" you were banned because you basically declared you were leaving since you didnt like the rule fetishers; locking the door behind people who rage quit is kind of normal.

Thanks for clearing the issue.

I don't think I know a single large-scale online community where back-sassing moderators/GMs on behalf of someone else doesn't result in getting ire from them. Moderations aren't hostage negotiations lol.

I don't use discord game servers since they tend to be cess pits more often than not, so I don't know what it's like on there, but sorry that it tainted your view of the DRG community.

From what I've heard the discord is ridiculously strict. I guess some people like that, but if you don't you probably shouldn't be there.

DRG discord sounds pretty dumb, will avoid, thanks

I was trying to avoiding further escalating the issue at the moment and not get myself dragged into a pointless argument (it wasn't the first, or the second, or the tenth time I had seen the same thing happening), but thanks for clarifying. Just proves my point, really.

Have you tried not being off-topic in the game discussion channel?

He's a moderator, not a PR guy.

Thats basically this community, i had a similar experience. I've learned to engage as little as possible with the community, and ive learned to not to attempt to help people.

The mod who responded here was about as helpful as he was in my post. If anything, Ive noticed the steam forum mods fan flames more than try to work towards an understanding or any solution. Sad to see the discord server isnt much different. Not sure where this "good community" claim comes from, because i haven't seen much evidence of it personally.

You should be thankful they banned you from that cesspool of trash. Why do people even go on Discord servers. It's a joke.

Delusions of grandeur. This game's community is just as bad as the majority of online game communities I've seen. In many ways it's even worse than usual; there's a very, very strong elitist "veteran" bent to this community.

Meh, it's not so bad sometimes.

Can be fun to discuss things in live time with other people about DRG. There are some decent people who hang around there.

Some of the mods in particular (not Dwarfurious) are overly strict, and 90% of the conversation is arguments over builds but hey, nothing's perfect.

Don't join their discord if you're not willing to put up with these kinds of people. It deals double-damage; they don't have people to "moderate" and their Discord doesn't grow in size or popularity. :D

Its not even that strict its more or less basic rules that all Discord servers more or less have posted on their walls.
We have some simple rules on our discord we want you to follow. This is to ensure that everyone is having a great time!
- Be excellent to each other
- Hatespeech and racism is not tolerated
- No politics/religion talk - we're here to have fun. Not to argue
- Do not abuse the different channels, use them for what they are intended for
- Do not use inappropriate language, engage in bad behaviour or post NSFW content. Keep lewd versions of DRG content off the server, please.
- Follow directions from mods and devs. *If we ask you to stop, then stop. *
- No advertising channels or other Discord servers.
- Do not spread cheats or cheat software. We don't care what you do in closed games and on your own, so keep it to yourself.
- No cults
These are literally the rules, the same rules you would likely see on any other Discord server!
