I lost all my progress
My promoted characters and all the BEER is gone.
It's not a little progress it's all my progress gone.
I didn't know the game saves all the files locally and I had formatted my pc completely and I regret it.

Lost all my motivation to even touch the game.

Have you tried the restore save in the options menu?

If it relies on local backups, it won't work as those are gone as well. The question is, are those uploaded to the cloud...

I've heard people say that they are and that they aren't...so who knows?

That sucks but thanks for the cautionary tale.

Maybe by the end of the year when there's new biomes and missions you'll regain the itch to play again.

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lost my time which I will never get back.
I feel incredibly demotivated and really hate myself for playing this game.

At least say something you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Dev's who didn't warn us that something so important was saved locally and could be lost.

This has me worried. I'm building a new PC in a few days. I assumed progress would be stored server side to prevent hacks. Does this mean I'm going to have to mess about finding the relevant files on my current machine to copy to my new build??

How does it work when you uninstall the game, delete all local files and then reinstall it? The game does definitely save to the cloud when I exit the game. Doesn't the game load the last save game from the cloud instead of creating a new one from scratch when you reinstall and play for the first time?

If not that's good to know and indeed something that should be changed asap. There are many reasons why you would be forced to remove the local files, would be horrible if I lost all my progress because of that. And why would the game even save to cloud when it's completely useless?

EDIT: Deleted my save game folder (of course made a backup before) and it loaded the last save from the cloud. I assume that's what happens when you reinstall, so your progress shouldn't be lost unless you disabled steam cloud saving.

I don't want to sound callus but if it was viewed as wasted time rather than time enjoyed being wasted, then maybe it's for the best. MMOs I've played have shutdown, rendering thousands of hours wiped off the face of the earth. But if I can say I had fun during it, then I reckon that's a net gain overall.

From what I know, they've stated in the past that the game is supposed to use steam cloud. But why it didn't for you I have no idea.

Make sure DRG has Steam Cloud enabled, or make a backup of your saves:
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Deep Rock Galactic\FSD\Saved\SaveGames

And you'll be fine.

This right here. Just recently built a PC. New everything and I still have all my progress. I feel sorry for OP, probably a dumb question but I assume it's not as easy as somehow obtaining someone elses save and playing from that?

The saves are probably the same as PayDay 2 meaning they are tied to the account.
Your data may be saved somewhere on the cloud, have a look around your synchronization options, and as some have mentioned the game features a restore option, some data may be on the cloud that will allow you to restore it. But I hate to say it but it's your own fault, no need to pitch a ♥♥♥♥♥ fit at the devs and what not. It's pretty common knowledge that unless its automatically saved on the cloud, if not it's on your local system, it's your own mistake for not checking if it's got the automatic settings on for uploading to the cloud, or backing up manually yourself.

If you have lost your data, learn from it, be more careful next time, and move on.

Ummm, Isn't this game steam Cloud compatible? I just bought the game, been playing a few hours, checked and my Steam Cloud is enabled by default.

It's easy for you to say get over it but you were not the one who lost hours of gameplay and time and almost nobody checks for local saves as it's expected to always be stored on the cloud.
