Bosco has enough utility that whatever you choose is viable.
Driller however is probably one of the easier solo classes(a bit of everything for everything).
Hazard level also comes into play. If I just want to beat a mission quickly I'll do haz 1 scout to let me move and get stuff faster while bosco means the scout's low ammo doesn't matter, but at higher difficulties I'd lean towards someone else since a solo scout can get overwhelmed and run out of ammo fairly easily if you're not careful.
Engineer is pretty much my second choice for anything other than Mining, sometimes the cave structure just doesn't accommodate you for evac.
Beyond that you'll probably want to use driller or gunner, and in the hardest missions gunner is the best option, with scout falling very far behind the more killing that needs to be done.
1. Scout. With the exception of salvage missions, scout has no limitations.
2. Driller. He can bunker for hard swarms, and has almost unlimited mobility.
3. Engineer. A bit slow on level clear, but sentries and prox mines make soloing hordes easy.
4. Gunner. Lots of firepower, but the most limited mobility and will some trouble navigating the caves alone.
I play h4/5 with engie solo. Light and 1/2 of the mining is bosco's job. Upgraded your slave with Fast mining and upgraded light and kiss that scout 'utility ' goodbye
Platforms let's you reach any resoucres & traverse pretty much any terrain. They're also a very plentyful tool.
