But I do think that at this point any female dwarf models are probably a far off dream until this game leaves Early Access, Mainly because of all the work involved of re-coding all the armors and items, Plus the hiring of a voice actress and a script for those lines,
Hopefully though we'll see them one day, Just not today of course ;)
and i weep
This may be a lie that I just made up.
Okay yeah it was a lie.
I'm a 100% red blooded manly man, who works construction and excavation. I drive big dump trucks, operate heavy equipment, run a chainsaw, weld steel, wrench on broken engines; etc... All that manly burly stuff.
Samus Aran is still my all time favorite game hero. Her digital genitals are irrelevant, I am no less immersed in her games because we don't have matching junks. Same goes for Clementine from the Walking Dead series, Tomb Raider from Playstation days, etc...
The hero of a story exists to serve the story, not to serve the reader. DRG is a game about Dwarves, a highly patriarchal society, it's also a game about mining and combat; two things that are very skewed towards the male gender. They are men because it makes sense for the story and setting. That's it, simple as that.
Game only has male playable: I WANT GIRLS.
Game has a fantasy setting where we cannot tell the gender: I want humanized girls of these things.
See that's my biggest peeve right there, Not entirely in regards to Deep Rock Galactic, But in general with how dwarfs are portrayed,
Because we can't tell the gender, for all intents and purposes of writing, The dwarves are always dudes, And I mean ALWAYS,
They're never bearded women,
They're never hoarded away cause of a 3/4 male to female gender ratio,
They're never dwarven women passing themselves of as dudes with a false beard so that they can go out and do some adventuring,
No for the sake of not stealing pure dwarven viking thunder, Let's simply handwave and say that all dwarf women should never be seen, heard, or even spoken of, thus denying the world the chance of seeing ever seeing even a single Xena-like, mini-badass.
For crying out loud, even Orcs and Gnolls have got raiding parties with women in them nowadays, Dragons are also 50/50 on being female too, and even though dragoness don't have breasts, does that make them any less of a dangerous firehose ready to torch you in a minutes notice?
Is it too much to ask to have even a few dwarvern women so that we can see more of dwarvern culture? Or are all dwarves forever doomed to be hidden and just be "token" party members because of sheer storyteller laziness?
And now I better brace myself for the imminent downvotes, because people can not take the idea of a female dwarf being an option outside of DnD, Shadowrun, and World of Warcraft.
