B. Most games with splitscreen support are built from the ground up that way, it's not as easy as it sounds to just "tack it on" after the fact. (The game has to be capable of rendering multiple copies of itself on one machine, a VERY difficult task; if you've ever wondered why mirrors are so hard to do right in video games, this is why.)
C. Splitscreen is exceedingly rare on PC, I wouldn't hold your breath.
There are plenty of splitscreen coop-capable games.
But yeah, probably not gonna happen due to the rendering requirements.
You can always plug in 4 monitors together though!
What percentage of the total PC games library in it's entirety would you say is split screen capable?
I said it wasn't a low number of games.
Yes, compared to the games that don't support it, there aren't many. But there are still plenty of choices.
Excluding obvious stuff like platformers/fighters/boardgames/topdown shooters/etc., some first/third person camera games do this, and some games are literally built to be played coop (mainly puzzle but some survival, roguelikes, etc...).
I like local play a lot, so I do seek those out.
Arbitrary 5% just because no one else gave a % and breathe...
Split screen just isn't important enough (because PC's are usually networked) to afford the extra effort, time and testing to add it for a small minority who would want it.
Used to have 4 Player LAN sessions Like that - should be easier with WiFi
And we used to Lug Big Heavy 90's- 2000's Comps to each others Houses
Have smaller comps and Laptops now
One of the best gaming experiences I can remember is Golden Eye Local Coop.
This game screams Couch coop. So few FPS games have local Coop these days that Serious Sam 3 gets a lot of play time and that is just two player coop.
I am typically Linux only but would buy this if it had four player local Coop.
