Glyphid queen?!
We know there will be a new boss eventually, just keep that in mind when you read this...

So, in the egg hunt mode, there's obviously something that's putting those eggs the wall. Plus, when you dig them out, the ground shakes and you hear the roar of an unknown creature... could it be the mom?

If it is the Glyphid queen, then will we get a chance to fight it? Will it be like a ant queen and be able to fly, or like a termite queen and have a gigantic abdomen?! WILL IT LAY EGGS WHILE YOU FIGHT IT AND SEND ITS BABIES TO KILL YOU?! AND IF THERE'S A QUEEN... IS THERE A KING?! WILL HE BE ANGRY IF WE KILL HIS WIFE?!?!?!

These are the questions I wonder. I just wanted to put this out there to see if anyone else had similar thoughts. Let's just hope I'm wrong and DRG won't send us to fight this thing...

We don't know if those are glyphid eggs though, in-game they're reported as "unidentified egg" so they could be from another creature.

True, you got a point there.

BUT, there are other eggs I've seen that release swarmers. Saw them in the beginning of a cave. Very Alien movie-esque.

I made a suggestion a while ago - think there should be a brand new mission- Hunt the Queen - you go deep in a zone, fight hordes of Bugs, and at the end is a Massive Queen with 2-4 Dreadnoughts as guards, out of cocoons, ready to go -- killing the queen would be the primary focus, and she'd drop a random amount of Minerals on death - Croppa, Magnite etc

also those rock-like Rib Cages on Sandblasted - mabe in the future some big Sandworm, where you have to target the head maybe?

Oh, I would totally play hunt the queen! I like idea of killing the hive by striking at the heart! I like the way you think. But... Maybe instead of dreadnoughts, it could be a double boss fight with the King AND queen! With termites, the king never leaves the queen's side, so I could see those two fighting together 'til the bitter end. Which is kinda romantic... In a disgusting, buggy kind of way.

I could see the sand worm. Hopefully you wouldn't be unfortunate enough to fight it in a sandstorm...

They could make a "boss fight" with a queen without going out of how the game works at the moment. I do not believe it could be logical that 4 dwarves can handle a queen and her bodyguards, they are dwarves, not destroyers of worlds.

So in my opinion, a rare mission type (one that gives a lot of exp and credits due to its difficulty) could be a Hive Destruction. The M.U.L.E. doesn't carry anything this time and you have a set amount of nitra for resuplies, however the mule is carrying a big nuke with a set amount of Shield and HP, shield recovers, HP doesnt. The objective should be to protect molly all the time till you reach the heart or where the queen is, let the queen just be background and while the team activates the nuke our dwarves are attacked by all kinds of enemies they have already faced before while the queen just screams whenever a Dreadnaught or a new wave comes.

After X waves the nuke activates a shield strong enough that nothing can destroy it and our dwarves can escape from it's explosion.

This is nothing more than "It would be cool if" although I tried to be realistic on what the devs can actually do since it would not require an actual boss fight and would only require the nuke (with HP and AI behavior that tries to destroy it) and the queen's model.

Yeah, that sounds like a reasonable approach. I'm still holding out for a boss fight though, because that would be badass. (Although, killing something with a nuke is pretty badass too).

I think a boss fight could still work, especially if the queen is like a termite queen. Her abdomen is so huge and swollen that she can't really be on the offensive. And if you get too close? She might bite you, I guess. Woop dee doo. Her job is to be a baby factory, not a fighter. So, maybe the fight would just be against her babies (Regular enemies) and the king, and killing her is just the super objective. Maybe, the king could heal her and that's why you have to kill him?

OOH! Or maybe the mission is searching a huge cave complex, and then once you find her chamber, you have to wait for the nuke/Big bomb to arrive (Like in salvage) because her hide is impervious to regular weaponry AND THEN you can kill her. And in the mean time, you have to defend against babies and the king. I feel like that could work.

Also, maybe the queen in the fight just causes minor annoyances. Like, spitting that goop that makes you move slower.

the MULE with a Nuke and a countdown would be a nice addition/modification

Yeah, that would give a more mission-y feel. Instead of just KILL THING.

Maybe it could be like Aliens where the queen has a detachable ovipositor, which would easily allow it to go and chase your unlucky dwarves.

Y'know, if the queen goes that route instead of being like a termite, it could add some surprise to the fight! Will the queen make babies to kill you? Or detach it's ovipositor and kill you herself? WHO KNOWS?!

what would be terrifying is if the glyphid queen could randomly tunnel through the map. so you'd have to watch the scanner to know where she's going to pop back up (by the new tunnels she'd be making to get to you)

Regarding my "Explore and find the queen" idea, I feel that would serve the game well. This game is about the mining after all. Even in the elimination missions, you still mine stuff along the way. So I think it would work mining things while you search for the chamber that you don't know the location of.
