fossils are on the walls and ceilings. easiest way to get them is grapple on them with the scout. His flare gun also helps light up ceilings so you can spot fossils a lot more easily.

And mineral you collect 15 of? You mean hollomite? Those are the purple crystals. They spawn all around the map
They are scattered around the map.
Fossils often high up on ceilings of bigger caves ore in small side tunnels. also i've had a few my team just ran past becasue we didn't look caerefully when going trough a tunnel. They have a distinct blue color and the stoneplate on wich they sit is rather light in tone. Scouts flaregun helps a lot finding them.

As for the mineral. I think you mean hollomite. This is a Purple mineral kinda looking like glass. Its often found in small quantities just lying on the ground. It looks imilar to Umanite just with a different color.

Thanks for all your answers! Will look in the Wiki.
Hollomite can be easy to miss without light. Take your time and search each tunnel and area on the map while tossing flares everywhere. Fossils can be the biggest pain as well for the same reason, although they tend to be even harder to spot in dark caves - familiarize yourself with the spiral pattern found in the center of them.

In my experience, Fossils are easiest to spot with lots of light or absolutely no light at all.
In biomes with non-smooth ceilings where scout flares might not give great visibility on the ceiling, I'll instead turn off my headlamp and look for the faint blue glow that fossils give off.

I think Magma Core and Glacial Strata give me the most trouble, so that's where I try to go pitch-black instead of lighting up the place.
