Any reason why?
Besides, we already have four classes perfectly capable to taming every glyphid... with bullets.
The core gameplay is defined with 4 classes in mind. Adding one would change the whole core, and one class would be out in a 4 player lobby. The suggestion is like all of the "I want a medic class!!!"
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the developers already said they will most likely add a new class some at some point in the future, when is still unknown. Some months after full release is my best guess.
Yeah might be hard to implement, but should still be possible to do.
Your beast/s would likely be engi-turret like. But mobility and guns?
What they said was this:
Thanks for finding that quote, I knew thy said something about making a new class.
But I don't think a class around handling Hoxxes bugs is a good idea. They're hostile monsters that the dwarves constantly deride ... The only exception is how they constantly call loot bugs cute, but good luck getting one of those into a combat role. Dwarves even hate the harmless larvae!
Plus, I wouldn't expect Deep Rock Galactic to let even a single one aboard the space rig.
... A beast master class revolving around technological critters, though? That would fit the DRG theme a lot more.
I'm indifferent to the idea overall. It makes more sense than expanding on the perk, since a class can constantly have numbers adjusted to balance it with the other four, while making the BeastMaster perk any more powerful would just contribute to power creep.
edit:
Mounts would be fun mechanic to screw around with in a friend-only group setting, purely from a "having fun" perspective. But I don't see them being any actual value toward objectives or in a fight, and while indifferent to the class idea I'd have to vote No to mounts. I can only imagine them as being a nightmare in public games. Both for the rider and for the others.
Dwarves on the ground would have to deal with a bullet sponge getting in the way all the time, or deal with a teammate running off on his own personal glyphid hotrod just to get downed 150m from the rest of the team.
And even competent riders would probably get kicked, TK'd, and/or verbally harassed.
How did I steal your idea? I just came up with this by myself, lol.
Redesign it as a more mobile melee engineer turret
Give upgrade paths
Make it summon-able, no more of this brainwashing ♥♥♥♥.
Put a place for it on the rig, where you upgrade it and watch it change as you pick what Bug you want to bring.
Give it robotic parts.
No mounting, but a "super jump" would be cool. Or even a wall walking feature like the bugs.
Remove the perk!!!!!
