It's a bug. Been there for a while and surprised Dev's still haven't fixed it.
A bug the community actually wants essentially. Be cool having a feature end up added because it started as a bug

I would laugh my tits off if they actually make this a feature and put them in the lootcrates as an unlock. I mean that's loads of content right there.

They said they were considering it.

For those looking try it, the trick is simple.

1. Just click on the color you want (then quickly)
2. mouse over the mesh you want it with

Once successful, it resets if you mouse over another mesh but you can freely change to any other color of your choosing. So make note of where they're before doing this.

It of course resets when you leave the weapon screen though sadly.

I've read this before, and I don't get it. I assume that "click on the color" is referring to the weapon skins, but the moment that I click on one, that closes the weapon skin window, so I can't move the mouse over another skin.

I don't know of any other place to change the appearance of the guns. What am I missing?

It's a hassle but you need to move your mouse immediately down while clicking and holding from a default skin to mesh. It helps if you cap the fps to 30 but you still can't get that skin combo outside the loadout. No clue how anyone else does

OK, I'll give that a try. Thanks.

"(then quickly)" Sort of the key point. Once you get it down it's easy but feels weird until you do.

Just know that I'm secretly judging you when I see you in game with a bugged out weapon skin.

Just for educational purposes do you happen to know how to get it to carry into actual missions?

No clue really, I figured it'd get removed eventually so I haven't fooled with it.

Thats too bad, I've seen people post screenshots of actual gameplay with the skins. Be enjoyable.
