Thoughts on Voice Chat
I love DRG, even with the limited playtime I have of it. But one problem I've run into time and time again is Voice Chat. Not talking about toxic people playing earrape through their mic, but rather just the idea of it. With a game that shifts from being slow and thorough mining and exploration to fast-paced combat, I would have figured communication would be done better. When using voice chat you can't tell who it's from, you can't read a username on the side of your screen indicating who is talking. When someone says "Hey Driller, can you come get this?" or "Guys, swarm is on me." I just have to ask "okay who're you lol" and stand still waiting for a reply. Text chat atleast tells you who sent the message and you can look at your teammates usernames and see it that way, but can't really do that with voice, as far as I'm aware.

What're your guys thoughts?

I agree. There needs to be an indicator of who's talking. Great example from a recent game:

Me: I'm still good for ammo so I someone wants my share of the supply drop go ahead.
Other Player: Ok, probably best if the gunner takes it.
Me: I am the gunner.
I agree. It's sort of confusing to figure out who's talking.

That's not a bad idea actually. It totally needs to be a thing.

Exactly, the game is still playable but it just gets confusing at points, y'know? lol
The quality of the voice chat is phenomenal, the best I've heard in any game. But it sucks because you can't see who is talking. I'm sure they will add that at some point, but if not, here's my +1 in hopes they see this thread
Probably one of those things that was overlooked like the old 'platform spam in the escape pod' thing was. Those happen alot in closed testing since the people involved typically aren't massive pricks of epic scale. Here though I bet it was everyone just knowing everyone and learning the voices their team mates had and going from there.

Now that it's in the public though it really needs it to help cut down on confusion. I can get it down after a few runs but starting off it's confusing alright.
Don't like voice chat, personally. I prefer to use the standard barks plus text chat for communication. But I'm sure you're right that the UI should show who is talking.
I use voice chat sparingly when I'm too lazy to type, but I have found that the ping system, combined with being able to point at ♥♥♥♥ with a lazer, is super useful. I really love the built in communication system.

Yeah, it's handy, and I like hearing the dwarves making comments more than a real person on a mic.
Definitely need some indication of who's talking. Can use normal character subtitle boxes except with mic symbol when voice is detected.
I haven't played with people outside my friends list but I agree with this idea. Whenever someone has an open voice line, their character should get outlined for the others (as when pressing CTRL) and possibly have a small chat bubble hovering above them that's also visible through walls. In addition, they could also make the health bars of the party optionally visible at all times, where the speaker could have another chat bubble appear next to their name/nick.
When I first used the voice chat it really hasn't been an issue of who's talking, if you stick together and ask for something then that person is literally in pickaxe distance no matter who they are.

It would be a nice addition however, i'm sure it's somewhere on the list of QoL.

Personally I tend to just use the almighty laser pointer when I need some awareness from people, mostly friends who happen to be in voice chat already.
+1

I play with my twin brother quite a bit, even people who know us irl can't tell our voices apart. Very confusing for team mates.

I rather have some voice lines in the games than a voice chat, those kids screaming in my ear every 1/3 games, jeez

Such necro!

Wow, look, it's me from a year ago right above you! You're in a Chibbity sandwich!

God, I was so thin back then, what happened?

Have you confused us with Team Fortress 2? Most of the games I've encountered are quiet, and when people DO use the voice chat, it's polite and calm.

Also, put this post back in the ground where it belongs.
