The "map"
Do you use it at all? In my premades nobody uses it or even worse, knows how to give it good use.

Any tips, are we dumb, or maybe its not that useful at the moment?

If so, could it be improved, given we are in early access and that?

I think it should be useful for me, a player with very bad orientation when I can't find the brown sand to dig and continue advancing. But I try to use it, check the different "shades", try to get conclusions, and nothing XD

The terrain scanner? Yeah that thing is pretty garbo but has a few niche uses. Mainly for detecting large caves, possible shortcuts to save travel time, and to locate the way forward if there's no obvious amount of dirt to mine out. It's also limited to checking your current 'depth' too so going up and down will change it dramatically.

I have no idea if they ever intend to improve it. I doubt it honestly, the only real way it could actually be useful is they converted it into a 3D image you could rotate and actually get a feel for the caves with and god knows how much codework that'd amount to.

i use it to dig through dirt in the right direction

The main advice I'd give is rebind the key. Having to hold down M to view the map makes it almost impossible to do anything else at the same time. I bound it to one of the thumb buttons on my mouse so I can more easily access it while walking around and it makes the map a lot more useful.

I use it whenever I tunnel through compacted dirt because it's not always a straight shot through. And sometimes the compacted dirt is hidden and it helps. I kinda wish it tinted the negative spaces by elevation because sometimes it'll apear on the scanner that I'm in a cave when I'm either above or below it.

This. And to possibly find hidden nearby caves if we're really stuck (which doesn't happen usually. And if it does, the scanner doesn't help much ha!). Otherwise, the scanner is pretty poor, especially given its press-and-hold requirement. In more complex caverns, it will just show gibberish.

Personally I have no trouble with the map itself. Works fine for me.

I just think people nowadays don't know how to read a map thanks to technology.

Really, save your passive agressive bullsheet for yourself

Its not even a map, but a terrain scanner, typical thing people doesn't know how to use anymore due to technology....right?

you were missing more sheeple words like millenials to sound more tarded.

Whoa whoa whoa. No need to be triggered because I disagreed with you.

1. Yes the map could be improved.
2. No it won't be improved, it's working as intended as a slight help device for compact dirt or driller classes who get lucky and get to make shortcuts rarely.

As for it not showing elevation, it's not a topographical map and would otherwise be too good.

The other part of the problem isn't even about the map itself, sometimes the generation is fairly evil and compact dirt is difficult to find, maybe a dirt finder will be added one day.

good, I respect your point of view, but since you are not a dev your statement about it working as intended and not gonna be improved is just your personal opinion, far from facts.

I'd say with or without complains it will get improved upon game release

So you're the authority on what the devs intended, and you've determined that they have no intention of changing the scanner whether or not players like it? How'd you do that?

This is a public forum, we're all welcome to share our opinions.

I agree with Highlation.

Map is working as intended. The game is thematically about exploring an unknown cave system. Any additional help in navigating would detract from the pacing/tension. Try to imagine the game with a glowing bread crumb trail to the end room, and giant floating arrows pointing at every vein. This is the extreme logical extension of the direction you are taking. Too much help is not a good thing.

Ima do the same xdd.

The map generation is working as intended, compact dirt is not difficult to find, and of course no dirt finder will be implemented, cause I say so.

We can all provide such """constructive""" feedback haha

this is also basicly my only use of it, and to get a quick "lay of the land" ocasionally.

Compact dirt is quite easy to find. Are you having issues of some sort? Look for the brown rocks on walls.

My feedback isn't "unconstuctive" simply because I don't agree with you.

Do you want to discuss our viewpoints like adults or just immediately resort to sarcasm at the first sign of a conflicting opinion?
