Controller Aiming Requests
Hello everyone. I own the game on the Xbone, but if the controller support is the same this should apply here too.

Before getting into the issues I have, I'd like to thank Ghost Ship for adding deadzone and acceleration options. These are great to see default in the game and have made it much more enjoyable getting into this.

Getting to the issues/requests, I've tested the deadzone for the game

Deadzone: https://imgur.com/svowZsY
Dotgraph: https://imgur.com/AL5C5Op

These might be slightly off because of the resolution of the adapter I used to test it.

The deadzone options aren't accurate to the actual value, but the slider is probably just arbitrary. The issue is the likely underlying ~6% square deadzone. This isn't much, but it restricts a bit of diagonal movement. Removing that should give us full diagonal movement, and allow use to set smaller deadzones(~4% vs the current ~10%). ~4% would be nice, but the slider could even lower the deadzone to 0% for those that want it.

Separate X/Y sensiitvity options
Currently, the vertical sensitivity is noticeably lower than the horizontal, which isn't uncommon in games but can feel unnatural when playing, especially given the more vertical nature of many areas. Different X/Y sensitivity also has the side affect of making diagonal movement incorrect, with bias to the more sensitive axis. This occurs in any game, and seems to be the case here too. Having both options would let us customize it to our liking.

Aim assist options
I'm not sure if any rotation is enabled, but the reticle slowdown when passing over enemies is tedious. It feels inconsistent having the sensitivity change when on and off targets and what could be a minor adjustment from an enemies' shell to their face takes more stick movement than it would otherwise.

Quick Sum Up

  • Remove axis deadzone and mlower minimum to 0% for deadzone slider
  • Add separate X and Y sensitivity sliders
  • Add an aim assist toggle

Thanks for reading.

I miss a lot of shots because of this.

Old thread, but I do play on controller and I agree completely.

My biggest problem is the mandatory aim assist. It slows down on bugs, teammates, objectives, etc. But not minerals for some reason.

I’d be happy if they simply added minerals to the aim assist group, or give us the ability to turn it off completely. It makes it harder to get the sensitivity to a reasonable level for needing snappy responses aiming at bugs, and small precise movements for mining.

The aim slowdown over targets consistently messes up my shots. Makes me want to just play a different game because it can be so disorienting.
Hoping they fix this by adding the proper controller options described by OP.

Sir, this is the Steam forum, for the PC version of the game; we don't use controllers here lol.

Imagine using a controller to play an FPS... *shudders*.

What about the Steam deck?

It's not supported by the dev's, so it's irrelevant.

To be fair, there was one FPS where I used a controller on PC, but it was a mech game with a turning/aiming speed limit; and a focus on maneuvering.

Where my fellow Hawken players from way back when at? : D

I do use a controller on PC on FPS
I personally always disable the aim assist when for some reason the game can't make the difference between aim assist and aimbot for controllers.

The only case where you could see me use a mouse for an FPS would be pvp games where accuracy is the most important (csgo, rainbow six you name it).
Though since I play pvp less and less because of many reasons that make me dislike them it doesn't really matter anymore.

And in drg case I am glad they didn't made the aim assist a freaking aimbot. (wich they couldn't really do anyway since there isn't a "aim" key, even the m1k focus shot doesn't fully count)

And ngl, I always found saying that one is better than the other weird because I am fully capable of using both and simply pick what I found the most convenient for the game. (always made me laugh in payday 2 when people say that keyboard is better even when I end up with an equal/better accuracy)

So yes, a controller thread on the PC version is still welcome.

Yes, flight sims, tanks, mechwarrior games, etc. it makes sense because your turning is capped. Any gun game it just feels sluggish and you are literally limiting yourself by using one.

Whatever floats your boat, but it's demonstrably worse than kb+mouse.

I mean hey, if the game is on console, and you've got no choice, it is what it is, not gonna lie and say I didn't play and enjoy thousands of hours of Halo with a controller; but now that I have the MCC on PC I would never go back lol.

Omg, I just searched up my old Youtube channel where I had some Hawken vids on a whim and actually found it; the cringe! Am I the only one who hates listening to his own voice? x D
