I didn't mind on L4D2 cuz it is 2$ most of the time, it's not hard to gather friends on it. No need to play public.
But DRG is 20$+ and it sounds like nobody want public social interaction and act like 4zzh0les.
2 weeks ago I couldn't wait to buy it, but from what I hear the community is cancer on the get go if you go open server with less than 20hrs playtime.
Setting everyone in private servers isn't a solution imo, it just shows the game has work to do to make its community supportive. I mean come on, this game looks cute and socially interesting. Are people taking it so seriously? It's not a battleroyale nor a moba. Is a lost game (cuz of a stranger), that much pain?
Don't hit me, I'm just trying to understand.
FWIW - I read a few comments here that discussed some people being toxic, and it made me apprehensive to join an online game. I did though, and each game has been with some cool people, with mics. Maybe I just got lucky.
Shame this game most critics are about people being kicked or limited content. I can overcome the later, but the toxicity is not really devs fault, and is therefore hard to fix. Maybe that's a week one problem. But I'm definetly not confy giving 25$ to have a chance to be lucky.
While I'm at it, do the servers have custom names? And can we fav servers? If a server has good traffic reputation it would be nice to not let it go.
I've only played on public servers since the game launched back in yesterday and so far I've been welcomed more times than I've been kicked for no reason. And it's been very pleasant.
I'm not denying that it happens but personally I've only been kicked twice so far.
Once with a reason, cause one of their friends were supposed to have my spot but they hadn't figured out how to private the server yet.
But I can sympathy with the feeling of joining a match and be kicked right off. No context given. Either those people have yet to figure out how to put matches on private or they're simply looking for specific players that they trust know what they're doing.
Or who knows, maybe they're just doing it to f*ck with people.
No matter the case, these ignorant people are part of the minority. If you stumble upon them over and over again you're either unlucky or ya might wannan try playing during the more active hours.
But I'll tell ya this. The whole community is not like this! Don't make such bold claims that could potentially harm the reputation of this 1 DAY old game.. If ya need to relieve some frustration over a couple bad player encounters you've personally had, either discuss it fairly and don't make up sh*t like this that reflects the whole playerbase or punch some meat..
Give it a week or two and I can imagine things will look differently.
You don't host a public server week one expecting everyone to be proplayer or make no misstep, especially in the game current condition (just released, lots of new players, bugs, early access). If not toxic, it's stupid. One or the other, no wonder is scares potential owners like me.
Now I want to trust time will help the situation. Perhaps the private thingy isn't that clear yet. But it sure needs a votekick at least. The game, from gameplay video I watched, is selling me huge group fun, wether friends or strangers. I wish that was true for the vast majority of the experience.
L4D public servers are an example of what can such a game turn into, and that is not good imo.
We'll see.
I don't mean no arm to the game as of now. I'm just expressing my external pov from reviews and threads I came across.
