exactly this. the grab mechanic breaks the flow of the game. its not even realistic, (if thats what the devs were going for) if you ran past a flower and grabbed it you would just pull it out the floor without even slowing down.
maybe on lower haz games where ppl stop the look around and take their time it doesnt matter so much but on haz 5 you need to think of it as more of a race, less time in mission means less bugs to kill and this new mechanic just seems to disrupt that flow somehow, plus stopping in mid air while grabbing is just dumb.
now be a good dev team and put it back how it was, then who ever thought it was a good idea go and make them stand outside in the cold for an hour without a coat.
Developer Notes:
The "Hold-E to pick-up items" feature is hotly debated - thanks for all the feedback! This feature is something we always wanted in the game to create immersion and the feeling of working in the mines, so you are not just sprinting through the scenery. Changes like this are always tricky post-release. The current implementation is a first-pass and there are several ways it can be improved. The verdict is still out on this one, but as always, we want to test it with all of you and then get a feeling of the impact before we react.
Unless that flower was growing in rock. And if the plant was unusually hardy, it may be resistant to simply breaking at the stem; I imagine a plant that grows its roots into rock would be quite hardy.
With that in mind, it's not a stretch of the imagination to assume that prying a fossil from the face of a rock wall, or yanking a Boolo Cap or Apoca Bloom might take a little elbow grease, and slow you down for 0.5 to 1.0 seconds.
I won't adamantly argue for the change to stay in the game, but I definitely am not going to argue for its removal either. I'm simply alright with the change; I find it novel and interesting. It was off-putting for the first couple missions I ran, but I got used to it. Just like I got used to Hold LMB to Throw farther, and just like I got used to hold RMB to Pickaxe.
