Blue dots on minimap?

Sometimes I find blue cubes on the map, I go to them and there's nothing there.. It's a deep blue cube floating on my map that represents nothing?

Is it a single blue cube, or several? - If it's just ever a single blue cube, It's probably a waypoint you accidentaly placed- If you click the Left mouse button with the Laser Pointer, It scans things- a quick click will highlight with a sphere for teammates, Minerals, Blooms, Loose Dirt- But if you hold down the button, a small fill up bar will go, placing a waypoint - for some reason you can't cancel these, and they Linger, until you place another (just can do a single waypoint at a time) most players don't use them I guess, I don't all the time- but they can be helpful in complicated tunnel layouts, or to angle an approach to mineral veins If you have to Drill or pickaxe up and into the high walls/ceiling

I'd guess what you're seeing is a waypoint you unintentionally and accidentally placed

the idea that its a placed marker is incorrect. when you place markers it make a sound, your character says something like right here, and its a green sphere. also it doesnt show up on the terrain scanner when you ping a waypoint, and they dont last permanently. i wish i could figure out what these blue cubes are lol

First, nice necro.
Second, you're wrong. It is a marker. Press Ctrl + E. This one is personal and shows on the minimap. What you're referring to is the ping (Ctrl + LMB) which is different.

Considering he said "I wish I could figure out what these blue cubes are" and has 0 post history on all of steam, he most likely used the search function to try and figure it out himself, then replied not realising how old the post was.

Well thanks to you and MrPurple33 I learned something new, despite having played this for years. Confirm it is laser pointer CTRL-E waypoint marker. Wiki has a single cryptic line[deeprockgalactic.fandom.com] It's not even in the keybinds...

This actually makes my life SO much easier as I would get Bosco to light up an Apoca or something on a wall, tunnel up toward the marker... only for Bosco to get bored after few seconds and wander off leaving me drilling blind into a cliff face . This pretty much makes it a doddle as the marker stays for basically forever.
