I'd guess what you're seeing is a waypoint you unintentionally and accidentally placed
Second, you're wrong. It is a marker. Press Ctrl + E. This one is personal and shows on the minimap. What you're referring to is the ping (Ctrl + LMB) which is different.
Well thanks to you and MrPurple33 I learned something new, despite having played this for years. Confirm it is laser pointer CTRL-E waypoint marker. Wiki has a single cryptic line[deeprockgalactic.fandom.com] It's not even in the keybinds...
This actually makes my life SO much easier as I would get Bosco to light up an Apoca or something on a wall, tunnel up toward the marker... only for Bosco to get bored after few seconds and wander off leaving me drilling blind into a cliff face . This pretty much makes it a doddle as the marker stays for basically forever.
