New Crates - How hidden away?
None of my friends have been playing recently and of course the wikia hasn't quite caught up yet so I've been wondering what's the deal with these? I found one the other night with my brother but given the circumstances I'm not actually sure how hidden away it was.

We were basically fighting in a tunnel and blew an enemy up on the ceiling and after the fight we noticed it had made a tiny crack, the scanner didn't seem to indicate that there was anything above us so we chipped and went through the hole into kind of a little hidden hollow/pocket and there was one of these crates in there and some very rare minerals all up the walls.

So this is my only experience of them thus far and basically we would have missed it and never known it was there if not for blind chance. Are they generally all very well hidden like this? Are they guarranteed somewhere on a mission? Is hazard level a factor?

Cheers for any feedback

The crates I found were quite easy to find, but the batteries were a bit trickier. Either way I think you should be able to find a crate or one or the battery easily on your way doing the objectives, but finding the other missing pieces is a bit trickier, they are not hidden inside walls, but they can be a bit farther than you'd expect vertically from the crate, for example in another cave below or above you.

On average it's 1 in every 6 missions.

I've seen them out in the open and tucked away so RNG gonna RNG.

Pretty rng.
Batteries are usualy within ~40m. Sometimes some caves below.

The chests are easy to find. The batteries are the real challenge.

they seem random on where they are, not really tucked away as much as you'd think. i found a handful already and they turn up pretty frequently. however, batteries can be a hard spot, as i had one battery in the glacial strata hidden in a heat vent that took me over 10~20 minutes to find. the key feature to find the batteries is that they have blinking lights on them and give a very feint amount of light as it is. they're not too far from the crate when you find it and can be found in the same cavernous area.

I was skeptical at first, but really, they are honestly fair. You might have to be thorough, but if you find either a lone battery or the crate, things are pretty much grouped together in a close range. You just have to be aware of all possible surroundings, in particular if it's a web of tunnels, since it could be either on an upper or lower layer (fungus bogs, im looking at you). But nothing crazy or unfair, and they do light up the surrounding area (not unlike bolo caps or fossils)

Cheers and happy diving!

Yeah I did a solo Haz-2 run earlier and spent an hour in a basic mining mission exploring every nook and cranny. Does anyone know where it was said that it was on average 1 in 6 missions? Or is it more a data-mined consensus?

I actually find the batteries easier to locate, the glowing orange ring around the top of the battery is visible from a mile away. However, while the a batteries are half buried much like mini-mule legs, they don't have the white glowing white sphere around them by default (the white sphere seemed to show up after picking up then dropping the battery.) The batteries audibly buzz when you're close to them, but it's not an audible from halfway across the map BET-C level audible.

Also, regarding the one in six ratio (I've seen some suggest one in five): I just did twelve back-to-back missions and had two 'Mechanised' skins drop from two separate crates - for the Deepcore and for the Stubby respectively - with one crate exactly every sixth mission.

Fast way to check the ratio/crate hunt:

- Load up a Haz1 (boring!) Point Extraction mission and play as Scout (that's the hardest part if you don't main Scout.) The reason for the Point Extraction mission is that those caves are often very simple and can often be one large room with the odd corridor going off it.

- At the start of mission ignore objectives and zip around everywhere with the zipline looking for the crates

- If you find nothing quit and repeat

- I've seen some people claim that even if you do find a crate and claim the loot within, you can then Abort Mission and will still have the skin. I've not tested this part myself, instead I have continued with the mission as normal after unlocking a crate to ensure I get the skin.

Note: You have to physically claim the skin from the chest. Simpy installing the batteries causes a shower of minerals to fly out. Interact with the chest, it will tell you right there which skin you've unlocked, which won't always be for the class you're playing as - it's RNG. Also, the skins will be available in the skin selection screen after the mission, you don't need to craft them at the forge.

Crap, I went three chests without realizing this. >_> Oh well

I'm not sure if it was mentioned anywhere, but can you get duplicate skins from crates? Because I got the glyphid trophy skin for my chaingun yesterday and I'm pretty sure I already got it the day before.

my friend found Battery in Ice lol like 2m deep, glad he was driller we dig the hell of the spot and 2nd part was above somewhere lol.

Big RNG the loot crate spawns.

After some testing, I think it's more a 1 in 6 chance per mission, not 1 crate every sixth mission. Yesterday I must have about 15 missions in a row without getting a crate (but then I did have a crash then later a disconnect during those 15 missions). Today I got one on my first mission of the day, followed by one each on the third and fourth mission of the day. I now haven't seen crates for a few missions since then.

It was funny how it worked out with RNG, first three skin drops were from the Mechanised set, then I had three in a row from the Trophy Hunter set. Just now I got a skin from the Custom Engineered set.

Some of the skins are quite cool too, I love the dual laser sights on the Custom Engineered skin for the Warthog. Reminds me of 90% of players' firearms setup on Ground Branch. :P

I like the frequency of the crate spawns right now, I did that as well the other day. Played 10 straight and saw nothing, today I had two in a row. Hope to see loads of cosmetics to unlock in this game later.

I wonder how long it will before I get a Cargo Crate, an Err-Ore Cube and a BET-C on the same mission. It's funny because I'll prioritise each of those things before mission objectives when I encounter one in a mission, but if had all 3 on the same mission which would I prioritise first? (probably BET-C, for the covering fire) :)
