How to change difficulty mid-run?

I choose the hardest difficulty, and now regret it. Is there a way to change back?

Yes, you can switch the difficulty during game.
Go into menu (with my Valve Index, left hand - button B, hold button for two seconds):
options - configuration - difficulty
