Should I get a Quest 3, or wait for Valve Index 2 / "Deckard"?
I currently have a Valve Index, so I'm not sure if the Quest 3 offers much of an improvement for me with regard to playing Half-Life: Alyx; but I'm thinking about getting a Quest 3 to play all those standalone Quest exclusive VR games, and because the mobility would allow me to move my VR gaming to areas of my house that have a lot more open space for room-scale VR.

What are the best standalone single-player Quest exclusive games that you think would make it worth getting the Quest 3 for a person in my situation?

Or alternately, maybe I should wait for the rumored Valve Index 2 / "Deckard" which may or may not be coming soon? Then again... that wouldn't let me play Quest-exclusive standalone games, I suppose...

I know so get quest 3, wait for index 2 release and wait for index 2 sale so you will enjoy quest for 3 years at least.

yall are still coping about not having wireless after all this time. the fact is that it's a freakin HUGE deal. That's why people have wireless phones, wireless mice, wireless charging, wireless everything. The index is literally at the end of it's life cycle and you're still dying on this anti Meta hill. The Quest 3 should have shut you up at least for the next 6 months if you were serious, but you aren't. you just planted a flag and are dying on a hill.

the fact of the matter is you can sell the damn quest 3 in 6 months or a year whenever the next Valve headset will come out and it will retain it's value unlike any other headset you buy. You won't be able to resell anything else as easily. And you get Asgards Wrath 2 for free so you get to see what IGN thinks is a 10 out of 10.

At this point to still be trashing wireless VR seems really in-genuine.

Wireless VR is not unique to the Quest ... just saying, but yeah it's a massive advantage to being tethered.

I'm not sure why you seem to think I'm anti-Meta or that I'm in some way denying the benefits of wireless VR. I just had a big conversation with someone else earlier in the thread about how I wanted to get a Quest 3 so I could take it outside and play room-scale VR in a tool shed I have.

And I actually think Meta has probably done more than Valve at this point for VR. I mean, Valve launched one big AAA VR game... (HL:A), which is great, but Meta has like a whole catalog of AAA VR exclusive games they published. Of course, I'm not saying a game has to be AAA to be good, but there's no denying that AAA game releases in VR are a big deal because of their ability to draw new people into VR so they buy VR headsets.

The sad reality is that when a great quality indie game like Vertigo 2 comes out in VR it's most likely the general gaming public really doesn't give a crap, so they feel no pressure to buy a VR headset from a Vertigo 2 release. But when a big AAA game franchise they probably already know and love like Half-Life, Star Wars, or Resident Evil come to VR and require a VR headset to play... they suddenly feel like a game they want requires them to get a VR headset... which draws a lot of new people into VR and speeds up the growth of the VR industry.

I got a quest 3 a few days ago and honestly it works awesome over WiFi using my generic att router that is 4 years old and not wifi 6 even. It does have 5ghz though, and I made sure it's on its own channel and not congested with neighbors wifi and I didn't notice much difference in clarity or lag over my HP Reverb. I get a consistent 20-30ms. It's pretty awesome, as now the controllers work so much better than the reverb! Wireless is pretty awesome as well since I don't have a cord to watch out for and get all tangled up. A good upgrade over the Reverb for sure.

I was torn between a quest 3 and index, but went with the quest since it's wireless and cheaper. Definitely worth it.

u have to be diced between good hardware = index, and "good" games = Quest. Quest is only an option because Meta floods it with money. Exclusive game kills VR at the moment it strokes by the corruption of Meta. There is choice but only one right.

Do any of you know what the play area limitations are for the Quest 3, assuming you have access to a large open play area like a tool shed, warehouse, or garage for example?

How big can the room-scale VR experience get for standalone games on the Quest 3?

There must be some kind of limit right? I've been reading over the Quest 3 info on their website and can't find anything about what the maximum size limits are for the room-scale play areas.

I agree. It is magic. Being un-tethered is a winner. I am playing Half Life 2 VR mode and it is pure magic. IF you need to wear glasses invest in HonsVr. I got these for Christmas and it is a game changer. True story.

I got some lens ordered off Zenni a few days ago that snap in and out of the quest for my prescription. Hopefully it works well. looking at the honsvr they look the same as what I ordered and the same price.

Yes, but many of those are now available as standalone games which work better for my playspace I think, so maybe that's a good enough reason to drop $500 on a Quest 3. Just to have standalone VR in a huge playspace. Even though I have the Valve Index already.

Does anyone with a Meta Quest headset know if Meta is able to get any information about you or your Steam library of games if you play wirelessly with your Steam games on their Quest headsets?

I mean I am sure they can, but I turned off all of the privacy stuff and opted out of sending them data to "improve Meta" or whatever. So you can opt out, but that doesn't really mean much I am sure since they could easily see what you are doing. I just used my current facebook account and linked meta to it not a big deal. If it bothers you, you could just make a fake facebook account, but If you own a cell phone different companies get your data everyday anyways there is no true privacy anymore.
