Worth getting just for mods?

Not really interested in the actual Half-Life part of the game, but I heard this game has some sick mods and I want a good FPS VR experience that I can dig +100 hours into.

I think so. The bioshock mods are fantastic full length campaigns. There are many wave shooters too if you like those. The campaigns with narrative are special though. They have provided me with enough replayability to get past 400 hours in this game

One of the best mods is "From Here To There".
Also Zheptics, Silver Hill, Red Dust, Fire Flight, Post Human, C17YSCAPE (update), Storm Drain ............. and so on. There are dozens of very well made mods for every taste..................

So are you actually not going to play the game itself ... just mods? Just wondered why it would hold so little interest for you?

Bear in mind that apart some of the more complete conversions (such as Bioshock), most of them are at least Half Life themed - so more fan made maps and campaigns - so if you're not interested in Half Life at all then maybe it's not for you.

Suggest you take a look at the Workshop to see if there's mods there that you'd be interested in.

this is so wrong. No mod will ever be comparable to the vanilla alyx experience... dude... play alyx from valve. then mods if you will.

Levitation is a good mod, but is NO near to vanilla from valve... dude the just get assets and make varieties mods, not even close to the real deal.

I just don't have any interest in the half-life universe. I just want shoot things and the core gun play seems pretty good in this game compared to other VR games.

Fair enough, but in that case necrophonic's post is relevant as the amount of mod game play outside of remaining HL themed is reduced.

The game itself is worth the asking price imo, but get it in a sale and combined with all the available mod content it's an absolute steal

ok perfect time for sale, I bought it and change my mind about the half life part... I didn't realize it was gonna be this detailed and nice. Also downloaded the gunman contracts mod... exactly what I was looking for... money well spent.

I have over 100 hours in this game and none of the mods have the quality of the main game. You should at least playthough the campaign once. Still the best VR experience ever.
