Meta Quest 3 question
I’m thinking whether or not I should buy quest 3 and the biggest deal breaker for me is how it’s going to play pc vr games like Half life Alyx, I’m wondering has anyone here managed to play this game on the quest 3? If you did does it play smoothly and is setting it up going to be easy or am I going to need a degree in IT in order to do that?

Thanks in advance.

For the Quest 3, I've had problems launching HL:A through Quest Link / Air Link but it Plays pretty smoothly through the Steam Link app (Can be downloaded from the Meta store for free.) Keep in mind, your experience may be hindered depending on how fast your internet connection is If you go this route.

I mean, I played it on a Pico 4 via Virtual Desktop and I had a really smooth experience. I don't see any reason why it would be different with a Meta Quest 3, that has a even better hardware.

As long your router has Wifi 6 you probably won't have any problem streaming the game from your PC.

Plays perfectly fine on Quest 3 using Virtual Desktop with a WiFi6 connection. Also plays fine using Link Cable. (This assumes your PC is up to specs to play HLA)

It comes down to the quality of your cable or wifi speed. On 5ghz wifi speeds, I can play the game with no problems on Airlink or Steamlink. I personally used Steamlink and the game ran perfectly fine, although there will be occasional lag and stuttering on 2.4ghz wifi speeds. I tried playing with a cable, but I found it really irritating to drag a cable around especially since the usb port on the Quest is on the side of the headset.

Steamlink is very easy to use and setup only requires syncing steam to your Quest with a verification code. Once you're in, just start Alyx from your Quest and you're good to go.

I just completed Alyx using the Meta Quest 3 and it worked great. I used SteamVR to connect the Meta Quest 3 with the PC. I used wireless connections to my home router for both the PC and the headset. Worked great, even with graphic details set to Ultra. Link cable works too but not required if your home wifi is fast. I'm running Wifi 6, on 5 GHz.

SteamVR gave a warning that connecting the PC wirelessly is not recommended. Then the game itself gave a warning that setting graphics to Ultra may(!) impact performance, but it didn't. So i just ignored both warnings and it worked great, with stunning graphics.
