HL:A Mods that take VR out of the game also take all of the gameplay out and fundamentally change the game to a point where it is no longer enjoyable.
Follow the instructions in the document in the link and the instructions for the game-mod.
This response is just ignorant, it deliberately ignores the OP's question and simply projects your own viewpoint on how the game should be played. He's clearly using a mod, which is entirely his own prerogative, and looking for help with that.
@ OP
I would suggest contacting the mod developers directly or on a forum for the mod if one exists.
As if flatscreen players who presumably haven't tried VR and just want to play it flat aren't ignorant about VR gameplay.
Anyway, I'm also entitled to my opinion on how the game should be played and Valve indicated in several interviews that they also believe it is best played in VR rather than as a flat game so I don't think it's ignorant.
1) Deleting the no-vr mod folder and then uninstalling Half-Life: Alyx from Steam,
2) Restoring Half-Life: Alyx via the Steam backup of the game I'd made earlier,
3) Re-creating the 'HLA-NoVR' folder for mod files within the Alyx install directory as below:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life Alyx\HLA-NoVR\
4) Copying the extracted HLA-NoVR mod files into the above folder,
5) Not sure if this matters, but took GuitarSlayers advice above, right-clicked Half-Life: Alyx within Steam > Properties > Launch Options > and added the following:
-novr -vsync +vr_enable_fake_vr 1
6) Ran the launcher from the mod folder located as below:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life Alyx\HLA-NoVR\HLA-No-VR-launcher.exe
7) It loaded and when pressing 'Start' or whatever did a bit of an update and it added the following folder and file to the vanilla Alex install directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life Alyx\game\novr\pak01_dir.vpk
8) Game then runs and menu buttons appear at the title screen immediately, allowing me to press 'Start Game' and voila, game starts.
(if you are stuck on the opening logo or looking at the ground to turn around to find the logo and then move with no fix to the surroundings-(god mode))
Have the Retail version of the game that you purchased...
On Steam Edit the games properties and launch options parameters to (right click the game in steam library)...
-novr -vsync +vr_enable_fake_vr 1
Download the Half-Life Alyx NoVR Launcher...(latest version)
Download HLA-NoVR-main and in the zip find game folder and copy hlvr and novr to game folder in steam install directory for HLA...
https://github.com/bfeber/hla-novr
Run Launcher and the game will load the menu and game rather than hang on logo!
N p.s....
Avoid the Narc. above why not enjoy a game at the highest resolution possible and it makes Valve more money as well!
N it lets all those who have a decent pc and can't be arsed with a gimmick enjoy a game that looks better then it ever did on any headset!?
Buzz.
1. uninstalling everything.
2. Reinstalling HL Alyx.
3. CLOSING STEAM COMPLETELY.
4. Installing the mod.
5. Running the mod to play the game (with Steam CLOSED)
Only THEN everything seems to work like before.
