Makes sense Valve would first make sure Half-Life: Alyx of all things works using their Steamlink software on Oculus/Meta.
Also check what devices are used when you are in the quest 2 Link Application. You can set what sound device will be used, and it should be on "Headset". Once you've set those correctly you might need to restart everything for it to take effect.
Tried VD (Virtual Desktop)?
How is your WiFi? Maybe it's in a congested area, or shared with many others making the speed low? (That should just be jittery and still work, just throwing out an idea).
Also, if you use VPN turn it off when using VR (I think).
Could be time for a complete re-install as well, but don't do that lightly. At least back up any documents, pictures etc. that you want to keep. But this should be last resort. Most likely there are other things you can try before doing that. Like re-installing VR drivers, Oculus / SteamVR, etc.
What's your main PC specs anyway? (GPU?)
As a test, how about making a new user for Windows, and install Steam etc. there? Just to see if there's something up with the current Windows user's settings. Otherwise I'm out of ideas atm.
I play HL:A without using any home environment, Oculus or Steam VR. Usually via VD.
last build. i do not want to go by my last resort saying " if all else fails delete it all and reinstall" 2nd windows boot on new drive as a test would be last resort for me . still holding hope someone could point me to a log to look at or do some actual trouble shooting on this but not sure who to ask for help other then posting here .everyone official will point the blame at someone else as usual
So to be clear, HL:A actually works but only when the Steam VR home environment starts? I haven't used the home environment for a long time, but as I recall you can install different environments. Maybe something's funky with the environment you use? Tried switchhing environment? (You probably have, just a thought).
Btw, Windows 10 or 11? (just another tidbit of info that may or may not be useful?) Maybe someone else have better suggestions. Sorry I can't be of more help.
