Review: No-VR Mod
I have to say that it was super frustrating not having the possibility to play this game at launch as it is a 100% VR game and it is extremely expensive to get one. Fortunately, after 3 years, I had the opportunity to experience the game for the first time thanks to a team that is developing a No-VR mod, I'm sure the experience is much better in VR, but I can say that even playing like this the game is worth every second. I recommend that everyone who does not have the possibility to buy a VR and wants to play this masterpiece, try to give this Mod a chance, they are making extremely fast and good progress, making it possible to go through the game from start to finish without any problems.

these are in my eyes excuses because you can get VR glasses cheaply meanwhile. and I will never understand why people prefer to use DesktopMods because of 15-20 dollars a month to rent Vr Glasses (a cheap alternative too and where you also stay flexible and can change Vr glasses every now and then)

Never in my life would I play such titles as Alyx as a desktop mod. Then better leave it completely. And this is just my opinion, no attack against you

You make a very good point. There is no comparison to experiencing Alyx in VR, people should do themselves a favour and ensure they do. It's a little more expense and some extra setup time ... but you will never regret it.

I prefer to play this game in No VR (yes i have vr set). It is much pleasent experience than wearing heavy vr set and doing gymnatic in my room.

That's cool. I prefer VR, but it's cool if you don't have, or want a headset and can still play the game.

While Alyx's requirements are low, most PC VR games require a $1000+ PC to run well and look decent. Then, $300 on a Quest 2 doesn't seem like that much in comparison.

It's nice to have the option, but in reality the answer is to just not buy VR games if they're uncomfortable for you. Hell, they're uncomfortable for me, too. I just play in 30 minutes bursts. It's a toy, after all. Not a lifestyle.

Alyx isn't really worth playing in non-VR from a gameplay perspective, but story-wise it's a must for HL universe fans.
I own VR and I still think Valve kind of slapped its community in the face after leaving everyone on the dark with Ep2 ending and then only giving us more Half-Life in a niche format.

What do you use your VR headset for?

I have a 6 years-old machine with GTX 1080 and i7-7700k, and an Oculus Rift CV1. Of course I can't run Alyx maxed out but it still looks great on Medium settings and I can run it

Vr headsets are not expensive. Budget options have existed for years

Truth be told, every single VR game should have a non-VR option, especially when people had been waiting several decades for more Half-Life. We're PC gamers first and foremost, the mouse & keyboard & 24-48IN screen is paramount above all other accessories.

That said, the NON-VR mod indeed works fantastic.

Agree, the noVR-Mod is a game changer in the current version.
There are people out there who suffer from motion sickness under VR and need a bucket after 10 minutes and having a headache for the rest of the day.
I prefer flat gaming and the mod gives me the classic shooter experience while I can follow the story.

Same here, I'm prone to motion sickness and don't feel obligated, compelled to buy a VR headset just for a sole game, no matter how good it is.

Just so you're aware, using two of the three movement options in the game won't make you sick unless you get ill just from existing. Two of the movement options have no artificial motion, which is what makes people nauseous. I absolutely CANNOT handle artificial movement in VR for any length of time, and I have played through Alyx twice with no issues.
