Its a sad fact that due to the long term nature of totalitarianism many of its subjects don't even realise what they are living under they are so used to it and their access to information is so controlled, whilst the enlightened minority form resistance movements or leave the country at the first opportunity. The novel 1984 illustrated how whole communities can be made to live in fear and accept hardships they would never normally accept by pretending they are always under threat from the outside when in fact no such threat actually exists, its simply their own leadership inventing it as a mechanism to oppress the general population.

1984 sucks and it's bad plagiarism of Zamyatin's "Us". Society can work like this and people will ask a lot of questions.
So where is totalitarism in real life? In USA?

Believe me, totalitarianism is at work today in several countries but I doubt anyone bar you would suggest it's in the USA. The USA has its own issues for sure but its not ruled but a totalitarian regime by anyone's imagination.
