What version of Windows are you on?
What's the specific model of processor do you have?
What VR headset are you using, and how are you connecting it to your PC?
This is not an uncommon issue with laptops who have both a graphics card and built-in graphics in the CPU.
Windows 11
i7-12700F
32 GB RAM
GTX 3070
I'm letting my headset charge and will be turning off everything but SteamVR and letcha know if it improves; but the stuttering between the eyes nearly made this unplayable.
It must be something to do with, Windows 11 - Or maybe you have the cpu set to handle the task of handling the graphics? I only have a 1650 - And HLA runs perfect for me, So i'm going to assume; Based on what i've seen - WIN11 Is probably the cause for negative performance.
Just to clarify - I'm no professional, Just speaking form my own experience. Few months ago I bought a gaming Lap top for when i was on the go, so i could play my steam games when i was not at my desk (Ik Should have just gotten steamdeck) and it came with windows 10, Has a 970m and a i7 and 16gb of ram.
It ran almost every game on high with 60+ fps BUT THEN I WAS FORCED TO UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 11 and ever since the laptop barley pushes out 20fps on low settings in Half-Life 1.
So, I hope you can figure it out bro.. It's a pain in the ass i can def relate. I'm glad i kept my tower on windows 10.
Please do let us know if you find a solution, Good luck!
I currently have a gaming laptop with a mobile 3060 and I can play Alyx with zero problems.
1) SteamVR is forcing the internal gpu to run rather than the dedicated GPU... I've tried all the solutions I can find i.e. change the settings in the new windows 11 to run steamVR executable and Half Life Alyx to run with the dedicated GPU. I've also done that setting in the NVIDIA control panel.
2) To the spicy person who told me that I shouldn't expect Half Life to run in VR because I have a laptop GPU, I am fully aware that a laptop GPU is a much lower performance version of its desktop rival. I used to play half life alyx on an MSI with an RTX 3060 and it ran FINE for me, at about 40 fps. This laptop is faster and better in every way, and I can't get it to run above a stuttering 20, but that is because it IS using the iGPU rather than the dedicated 3080.
Does anyone know how to get SteamVR / Oculus/ Alyx to all run via the GPU rather than the internal graphics card?
Maxed supersampling is not a thing, it proves that even if you own a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of headsets it still doesn't mean you know what you're talking about. After all, you decided to buy a Cosmos, it speaks volume about your will to inform yourself.
tl;dr, make sure you're using your dedicated GPU.
What is the app that comes with the laptop to control performance and all that stuff, is your dedicated GPU turned on in that specific app? All gaming laptops have an app like that.
Edit: apparently your laptop doesn't have that, it's only done through your GPU's software. There's also a Linus video reviewing your laptop and it doesn't seem great in general. I hope you figure out, it seems like this brand is horrible.
