I just walk through an area and suddenly the display freezes, some seconds later it turns to black and then the pc announces the disconnection of the headset. The screen displays
the message "Steam VR closed unintentionally". After acknowledging the message some seconds later windows mixed reality reinitiallizes the headset automaticly.
The only constant is the elapsed time of approximitly 10 minutes gameplay time.
I can only report some errors right from the start direct from the beginning after loading HL:A: all is lagging, stuttering, the controllers/hand are flickering.
After a restart of Steam VR this is gone. But this only happens in HL:A, too.
Never seen this in Windows Mixed Reality Area, Steam VR Area or other VR Games.
Though I don't play with those often at all, I mostly touch vive, valve, and quest. What we need to do next is you run the game, and you watch the task manager, and we see if alyx is jumping up in ram, I'm thinking this might be a issue between the G2 and Steam. May need to do some driver uninstalling and reinstalling.
I know the vive ogs can suffer towards last levels causing a flickering until restarted, index doesn't seem to suffer that issue but instead index controllers staying on the ground.
Uselly issue is with driver settings. I uselly stay in steam vr beta for this reason.
What's your refresh rate you use? I uselly stick to 90 for my system and 144hz for beat saber, different games require different settings. though I think g2 can do 60, I wouldn't recommend 60.
Also what is the speed of your ram you useing ddr4 or drr3, hopefully it's drr4 2133mhz, most optimised for the 6700.
Personally, what I would do is reinstall SteamVR, the WMR software, the WMR link software on Steam and HL:A.
I updated the nvidia driver to the actual version and I would say the problem occurance increases. Before the update sessions had sometimes a duration of 20 to 30 minutes before crash. Now with the actual nvidia driver I not overcome 10 minutes in HL:A any more.
When useing it, make sure to not skip by selecting all files to delete, it'd super easy to do, and you have to do this twice.
Then reinstall latest driver.
Would make things easier if you knew someone with extra headsets like vive and index, so you can do extra testing.
Probably should also uninstall alyx the same way as well. As you say only its affected, so it could have corrupt files. Also recommend trying steam vr beta to top it off.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the display driver and HL:A with no change.
Setting Steam VR to Beta triggers no download. I would say the latest beta is identical to the public version.
Cause save goes to cloud, and this has happened to me a couple of times, skyrim included.
You can add me to your friends list if you want, since I work on computers and VR equipment alot.
Hopefully you probably figured out the very last issue. I know towards the end can be stressful on equipment.
It might be imagination but the fans seems to produce lesser noise, too. :P
Windows news and interests took me out one time eating my ram only when I played alyx.
Your not trying to full blast the game while playing it correct? Also make sure you don't have antilansing 16x in your nividia control panel.
If you followed the tread, you may need to reinstall your headset drivers, alyx game, video drivers.
Heck your save may be corrupted.
But first see what's eating the ram and confirm it's alyx.
I can't even get a refund due the amount of time I tried fixing this game, valve plz fix
Just look at the mod support for example. This is my very first steam game where mod activation need a new savegame?! (except full overhauls)
My performance issue is gone only with a fresh savegame after fiddleling at all the typical graphics stuff.
It looks like they store informations in a savegame which have literally no dependency to the game progress.
