Unbearable Stuttering Oculus Quest 2
Using a link cable with my Oculus Quest 2 headset I get terrible stuttering. This wasn't as much of an issue in the beginning of the game, although it was still present. I'm at Chapter 6 of Alyx now and it's getting really bad. I can't use airlink or virtual desktop as I don't have access to my own router (shared super high speed internet in building). I know this is a common problem but I'm hoping someone has a workaround I haven't already tried. I'll list what I've attempted (at least what I can remember)

- Change audio input
- Change usb port
- Close all overlay/lighting/overclocking programs
- Change resolution/refresh rate of headset and steam specific things (room, etc)
- Have debug tool console up and running
- Minimize and click on window showing game on desktop
- Many more

Here are my specs:

2080ti, 9700k, 16 GB RAM, on a NVME SSD

Cant you use a WiFi access point? I put one in the room I use my Quest in. A TPLink 5GHz one. Works well with AirLink for me. An i5 is a very old slow processor. I run it on an old i7 PC have and it feels like just about enough.

i can give it a shot i guess but i've tried every which way to get AirLink to work and it won't recognize my pc. so i'm not sure if that would be enough to do it, as it's a shared connection with the building that i can't control.

also, i have an i7

I also own a Quest 2. Currently playing it using virtual desktop in wireless mode. I'm using a router that supports 5ghz and my Quest 2 is connected to my 5ghz network. I rarely get any stuttering at all my game is playing fine and is very responsive.

yea this seems to be the consensus based on the hours of research i've done about this problem. this is going to be a bit harder for me to accomplish given the weird internet situation in my building, but yea, thanks for the help.

Are you using official link cable? A lot of supposed USB 3.0 cables can't actually do 5 Gbit/s.
That said, I'm using a third party cable I found for £20 and the game runs perfectly.

Is your internet accessible only over wifi, or are there Ethernet jacks in your apartment that you can plug directly into? If so, you just…put your own router in there and use that with your headset. Plug your pc directly into the router to cut half of the wireless traffic for the headset.

i don't have any ethernet jacks in here. just pure wireless. i might just look into getting my own connection.

Angry Harold, did you fix the issue ? I have comparable specs, and get stuttering even with a WiFi 6 router and airlink.

You don't need internet or a modem. All you need is a WiFi 6 router. The router doesn't need internet access to do its thing. Connect your PC to WiFi internet like you usually do, but also connect it wired to a WiFi6 router. Connect the Quest to the WiFi6 router as well through wifi. Assuming you don't really use the Quest in a standalone form, you won't need an internet connection to the Quest directly unless you want to update it or something.

Same here. It runs fine when indoors but when I go to the outside areas i get bad stutter. I havent played it since i got a link cable but I should test it.

I dont think the issue is connection related as I also randomly get that low vid memory warning but not every time, and I'm on an 11gb 2080ti, not using maxed settings with 32gb system ram.
