I don't mean disappointed because it is or isn't replayable(I have about 70 hours in this game and will play through it again in the coming months and also check out the latest modding community content no doubt), but because this game is a completely linear story driven narrative set between games that came out 15 and almost 25 years ago respectively. A new player SHOULD still find the gameplay fun, but it's kind of like watching Star Wars: Rogue One having never seen any of the other films.
That being said, this is my favorite game of all time because of my investment in the series and the emotions of my jaw dropping so many damn times while playing it. Those incredible "A hah!" moments that come with Valve's signature charm, just so many good things I could go on and on forever.
Hope this helps.
Replayability? Depends. While I plan on playing it again at least once (I can see more) and while it seems to be the most polished VR game released to date (at least one of the most) and look and plays well, its not a open world and is played serially.
Sadly most of the VR games with large amounts of content are not-so-good ports of flat games. (I'm looking at you: Skyrim_VR, Fallout4_VR and others)
In the original Halflife, the tentacle was a similar sequence, except the player was engaging in encounters inbetween, it was longer, but more engaging.
With Jeff, it's a tight go-through-the-motions. Very much a one-and-done. And nowhere near as good as Halflife (1) in that regard.
IMO.
Free to think that, and I admit my opinion here is a minority, but to me, once you get past the first play-through, it's basically a heavily linear, super simple stealth section.
Having replayed Alyx 3-4 times now, it is extremely boring compared to Halflife (1) tenacle or comparatively Reisdent Evil 4's blind creature.
Having replayed it 4-5 times now I find it extremely fun compared to other games "boss" segments.
Ha, that is exactly what I did.
