So is this a retcon or non-canon or what?
We pretty much know the Combine don't build the citadels on-world. It's been stated before that they basically play lawn darts and drop them from orbit by warping them in.

I'm glad they jumped out with half life Alyx and left it on a kind of cliff hanger that half life 1 and 2 alike had.

Now i don't know if the next goal in the next game will be to go to Borealis or something else like rescue Alyx, completely fixed my issues with episode 2's ending of just always kinda knowing where it was going.
By 'new half-life game' what do you mean exactly? going to the Borealis was basically what EP3 was going to be, but the thing that people seem to get confused on is that HL3 would have been a new fresh start, Laidlaw specifically stated when he was at valve that EP3 would have closed the Combine, City 17, Alyx, Gordon and Gman arc, and HL3 would have been handed down to the next generation of team workers to tackle and make something new like HL1 all over again more or less.

HL3 wouldn't have just the Borealis and it wouldn't just involve the Combine conflict, if you look at the Breengrub related stuff, E.g. The Shu,ulathoi hatching into different entities, the Combine transferring life forms to host bodies and copying their consciousness, friendly non hostile Shu,ulathoi.

There really is a lot more a HL3 could involve and it would go so much deeper than the Aperture Science research vessel, the ship itself would just be a piece of the story, but you could use the Borealis as a way to explore other worlds and realities and expand the environments.

I mean there are endless possibilities, a HL3 definitely wouldn't be a simple predictable episode, it would probably even go beyond Earth itself, imagine going to the Combine homeworld?

Who said that 'that' didn't happen? they could have launched it from a portal, and are fitting it into the surface of the Earth, adding extra components to it, or something.

They obviously weren't built on Earth from the ground up, the giant gaping crater around the structure would make no sense then. It likely landed and took out a chunk of concrete and cinder block, notice the broken buildings around the Citadel in the beginning of Our Benefactors? it was definitely dropped, it was just probably incomplete and needed to be stationed carefully, hence the cables and cranes.

I'd like to remind everyone that "epistle 3" is literal fanfiction and not canon in any way.

It's hardly FANfiction if it's made the official writer ya dunce.

actually he is consulting on HL:A

it is also true that none of the post HL2 lore, incluiding epistle, is canon, HL:A will be cannon, contradictions with fan content is irrelevant.

That's an interesting opinion. I'm pretty sure that the Advisor in EP2 was Breen though, just my headcanon. Putting an even more 'deeper' spin on Eli's death.

They did make mention of a 'host body'

That's right. And Valve put a weird amount of focus on the Advisor, we got mind blasted by it in the Citadel after the message of Breen mentioning the 'host body' played, we encountered it in the barn, where it displayed 'infant' behavior, coming to know it's surroundings and slowly realizing who we are, tries to kill us when we're 'further away' while Alyx was 'closer'

since it wasnt written by marc laidlaw and the ending was bad retcon... we should not take this one as an canon instead stick with epistle 3 and breengrub

But it is co-written by Wolpaw who also co-wrote HL2 and also had Laidlaw as a consultant, so I would have to disagree with you.

I wish, but it seems that Laidlaw went crazy and approved this joke of writing.

Not sure if I am misunderstanding your answer or not, but the reason the building is broken is because the vault crashed into it in the game after the cables powering it were cut by Alyx and the Vortigaunts. And the reason the inside of the building is so bizarre when Alyx enters it is because part of the vault exists outside of the space continuum. That is also why Alyx encounters people inside who are frozen in time.

Like it or not, the official released product is canon. You can't decide it's non-canon just because you don't like it.
ParalyzedTortoise Apr 25, 2020 @ 7:45am
if you pay attention in-game, there are several whiteboards and other writings that show how the core "spire" of the citadel was teleported and spiked into the world and it was built upon afterwards by the combine. no retconning here
