Extreme Lag/Frame Stuttering Oculus Quest 2
Basically every 5 or so seconds I get extreme lag and frame stuttering for a little under a second but its causing me to feel nauseous and the game to be almost unplayable. I saw a few threads from months ago that drivers were the issue but I didn’t know if they were still to blame. I run Blades and Sorcery, SUPERHOT VR, Pavlov VR, Microsoft Flight Sim (in VR), etc just fine, issue is only present with Alyx. I am using an Oculus Quest 2, is that an issue?

Specs:
MSI RTX3060ti driver version 465.89
i7-10700F
16GB DDR4 3GHz RAM
600W 90+ PSU
WD Blue NvMe SSD
Oculus Quest 2

I have the same issue. I'm running a MSI gf65 thin, I7 9750H, 16 GB ram, RTX2060. Link can be even worse when it decides it wants to work lol.

Are you using Virtual Desktop or Oculus link?

Oh okay, thank you for telling me that drivers are at fault. I was gonna refund if I couldn’t find a fix, but I guess I’ll wait it out. And yes, those games run perfectly fine for me. Of course I’m not running them on the highest settings or anything but its not stuttery to the point I get motion sickness.

The last good Nvidia drivers are 446.14 from May, which is before the release date of the 3000 series. Apparently Nvidia doesn't care about fixing this driver issue since it has been nearly a year now. Supposedly a partial fix was implemented where if you close any software that does hardware monitoring, the game might play fine. But that means more than closing MSI Afterburner / EVGA Precision X1, as closing only that software did not help me.

I actually don't have MSI Afterburner or any software like that running

Hey I too have issues so I got some questions for you. Is your lag happening because you're looking around?

For me, I feel fine but when looking left and right I get reprojected frames. Also, Alyx won't run at above 60FPS. The initial load screen feels fine but once it loads, the lag on look begins for me. So far my research points to a bug with the renderer or some ♥♥♥♥ and ASW is happening when it shouldn't.

My work around is to limit virtual desktop to 60FPS and I'm using some launch options to make it run faster. Just throwing more power at the game to try and fight off ASW.

Just a heads up, if your using a higher resolution display especially a high refresh one too, lower your windows res to 1080p before starting game.

Failing that manually force ASW off in Oculus debug tools or Oculus tray tools, alyx has areas where it simply drops frames and asw goes nuts presenting itself as stutters and jitter.

I had similar problems playing on my oculus 2 with oculus link. In certain areas like Russell's lab the frames would drop from 90fps to 45, and in outside areas the frame rate would jump all over the place in random spots I walked over, even though I would be hitting 90 in the same general area. Then I decided to change my refresh rate in the oculus app down to 72Hz thinking it would give me an inferior experience, but that couldn't be further from the truth, it completely changed the performance for me for the better and I couldn't be happier with it now. Everything feels smooth to me and it doesn't stutter or drop framerate no matter what area I'm in. It also allowed me to increase the resolution to 4464 x 2256 with the fidelity set to high, and everything looks great. You have better specs than me, so it might not be your issue, but it's what worked for me anyway.

Specs:

Ryzen 5 3600
GTX 1080
16GB Ram

Yes, whenever I move my head in the slightest the game stutters a ton.

I set my res lower on my monitor and tried what you said to no avail.

Tried this aswell, turns out the issue was what someone else said (30 series graphics cards not being able to run VR well due to drivers issues). I looked on a bunch of internet forums and found that NVIDIA has acknowledged the issue but has yet to fix it, so I ended up refunding this game. I found that the issue is just extremely bad in this game compared to in games like B&S and Flight Sim VR. Thank you for all your help though!
