Half-Life is an amazing experience, but i'm not gonna spend my money on VR, just to play 1 or 2 games, it's very expensive gear, this game should be playable with keyboard and mouse.

One of the best replies i've read this year. Even though OP probably won't appreciate it, many of us, myself included, do.

Regarding the Quest:
the standalone (!) Quest works out of the box with Alyx, with either Oculus Link, or even wireless Virtual Desktop (the latter with some tinkering ofc.).
With the current price tag of 300 bucks new, for a full VR console and entertainment display, with the capability to be a (wireless) PCVR device as well, is quite a deal imho.

In Canada the Oculus Quest is sitting at $800-$1500, the Quest 2 at $700-$800 and the Oculus Rift S is $500+

Hold on 1 sec let me dip into my "savings" during major lockdowns that's crippling non-essential businesses and those who already weren't ahead of the game to buy overpriced hardware that I still have to buy games for to make good use out of it only to realise it was a bad purchase that could've better been spent elsewhere like living and supporting family and friends who need help during these uncertain times.

Those are scalped prices. And if you are looking at such prices maybe Cyberpunk should've not been released in such high quality graphics because I sure cannot afford 1.500 eu gpu that is overpriced by scalpers :-D

There is a reason that HL:A is vr only. Half Life showed how a story happening around you instead of infront of you is better, and crushed the market. Half Life 2 gave us physics and a bunch of new features never seen before. And Half Life Alyx shows how VR can make a 5 hour game 4 times longer. Alyx in desktop would just make it a short Half Life 2 graphics mod.
