Jittery and unplayable on Quest with Link
I'm using the Oculus Quest with Link using the Anker cable (as suggested on the official Oculus page). The game runs extremely poorly, skipping frames and jittering all the time to an unplayable degree. The entire game stutters, not just the hands. Character's facial animations also seem to lag behind the audio. I've got the latest Nvidia driver and the latest Oculus firmware.

I've read that by disabling supersampling in SteamVR and/or turning all the graphics down to low would help, but they do not. I've also read others having similar issues since the game updated, but since there's no way to roll back to a previous version (that I know of), I can't test this.

Another suggestion I found online is to go to the game folder > hlvr > cfg > open up the video.txt file and change the value of setting.vr_aoproxy_enable from "1" to "0". This seemed to solve the issue for about one minute, after which the game started jittering and skipping frames again. Reloading the game seemed to make the stuttering even worse.

I've also tried giving the Oculus software, SteamVR and the game High Priority in the CPU settings in Control Panel > Details, but this has also not made any difference.

Once again, all the drivers and software are up to date and lowering the graphics and the texture quality to low do not help at all. I've also tried reducing the resolution in SteamVR as low as it goes (20%) and this also doesn't improve performance.

My specs:
EVGA RTX 2060 Super (8GB)
AMD Ryzen 6 1600x
16GB RAM at 2400Mhz
Game is installed on an NVME M2 drive.

Any ideas or is the game just borked since the update? I only started playing it yesterday, so I don't know what it was like before, but I understand it was better.

I'm not an expert, but I would have thought your computer was plenty good enough for the game. Could it be Oculus Link letting you down? I couldn't get Oculus Link to work properly, but bought the Virtual Desktop app (and did all the sideloading stuff) to stream Alyx to my headset instead, which worked beautifully with my very under-spec PC. (And no cable!)

Cheers, I might try the Virtual Desktop. The computer's fine, I should think. I have read on several forums (including here) that the game was running fine at launch, then after a few updates it became increasingly unplayable.

Like I was saying, after editing the config file, it ran buttery smooth, but after a minute or so it just went back to being an utter mess. I can't even begin to think what could be causing it. What a downer, I hope I figure it out eventually. :(

Ive just finished the game using virtual desktop and it worked like a charm!

I just hope my WiFi is good enough for Virtual Desktop play. I'll definitely try it. Just don't understand why it shouldn't work properly over Link, as that would be the more straightforward way to connect the Quest to PC.

Well, I've only been using the Anker cable for three days and I've not had the chance to try it with other games, but it seams to work fine in the SteamVR room thing.

Sounds more like a USB connection issue.

Oculus Link doesn't work very well, when multiple devices are connected to the same hub (and yes, Mobo USB ports are also part of (internal) hubs).

A dedicated USB PCI-E card, where only the Oculus Quest is connected seems to be the best solution.
