How to pull up console?
I am trying to play the new Crash Course mod that came out out for Alyx, and the instructions say to enable the console by entering "-console -vconsole" in Set Launch Options which I did. Then in game, I should be able to hit the ~ key to bring up the console...but it doesn''t appear :(

Anyone know how to fix this?

i used a separate launcher HLA launcher - https://github.com/JetLennit/hlalauncher/releases

Download it, unzip it to a folder, download the map to that SAME FOLDER

Run the HLALauncher java executable it will bring up a gui, select the map and click start map

i got the info from here - https://uploadvr.com/half-life-alyx-wolfenstein-mod/

Even easier, just add: "-console -vconsole" (no quotes) to your startup command via steam properties and hit the "`" key (the one above tab) to pull up the console. Launch the game with headset off, access console and type "map crashcourse" (no quotes) and let it load, do that again (readme notes say it's required to prevent some bugs), put on headset and get goin.

I set the launch options and the console button isn't working on the main menu. I took my headset off, plessed "~", and nothing.

You are setting the launch options from your library -> Half-Life: Alyx -> Properties -> Set Launch Options right? No quotes as well, so just: -console -vconsole

Then just wait for main menu and press the key. Works for me.

Yea, that's exactly what I am doing. No idea.

Anyone else? This is just insane. I've been pulling the console up on Valve games for over a decade...what gives here?

Interestingly enough...after bashing the button about 20 times straight, I noticed a different window with a different looking console from the previous years. Problem solved.

Yea, they changed it. Glad you got it working.

Hey Pugs.

I wasn't able to bring up the console too, but I found an easy solution: changing your keyboard layout.

> What does that mean?

I am living in Germany and we have a specific keyboard layout (QWERTZ). If I press the key above the tab-key, nothing happens.

But if I switch to the English layout (QWERTY), then I will be able to bring up the console.

> How do you switch the layout?

Just press Shift and the left Alt-key at the same time and you will switch your layout.

Give it a try and I hope, it works for you.

Thanks, I appreciate your response. If I run into trouble again, I will give that a shot!

Try using the ` key, the one above Tab and below Esc, for some reason the ~ key didnt work for me either.

Even easier, just drag and drop the vpk map file onto the hlalauncher and it's automated from there.

You don't even need the console using the launcher method
