Floor height bug ruining my game experience :(
During the last chapter I played, at some point the ground in-game dropped over a foot below my real floor. At first, I ignored it thinking that it was just a glitch and would go away soon. However, it's persisted after starting a new chapter and restarting the game multiple times. I know it's not related to Steam or Oculus because in every other VR app I have the floor is perfectly calibrated. Even the cutscenes and loading screens of the game are perfectly fine, just when I'm in the actual game. Now it's impossible to open the yellow crates on the ground, I have to sit all the way on the floor to get to cover, and I constantly have to duck to get through every single doorway. It's really breaking the immersion for me, which sucks because HL:A is my favorite VR game yet and I've been thoroughly enjoying it so far! Does anyone have any idea how I could fix this, or if it might by patched at some point? Some say you can go back to a save file when the floor was normal, but I don't have one anymore. Any help is appreciated :)

calibrate height

For me I had to fix it in my oculus software by redoing the guardian setup and clicking reset on the ground setup part. Some people claim that they had to set it in SteamVR. One of the two (if not both) should work.

Put the headset on the floor and go into steamvr developer options and click on quick calibrate. You can do this while in game.

SteamVR and Advanced openVR settings doesn't work. I had the exact same bug and found that if you set the the game to "Hybrid" under accessibility options and then double tap one of the buttons (Forget which one) on your right controller to crouch, and then double again to stand. Sorted 👍

Got the same bug, did someone find a fix?

You have to redo Guardian setup to fix this.

I also have this problem, but also I seem to glitch into the ceiling. Also you can see the Chaperone borders in the floor/ ceiling, so I assume it's a glitch within the game, specifically in the save file, because the problem doesn't appear (at first) in a new game. I already contacted Steam Support, however they can't help me. I will try the hybrid setting soon, thanks for the tip.
We should get as much opinions of this glitch in one thread so that the Valve devs see that it is a problem that is appearing more often.

EDIT: I just tried the Hybrid Setting and it fixed it for me! I will contact Steam Support so that they can help others fix this glitch.

Its not a bug. Your settings are messed up somewhere. The fix is to set your floor height properly in your headset software and Steam VR. That makes it a you thing ..Not a game bug.

The floor was too high by about a foot which was annoying.
- Only happened in Alyx
- SteamVR Home was fine
- Alyx was even fine in the menu (orange footprints in a circle)

Ended up fixing it by doing this:
- going into settings within Alyx
- enabling (or re-enabling) the "crouch" accessibility setting
- Resume game
- Click on the left joystick to crouch
- Click on the left joystick again to stand back up

After that the floor height was fine
Once in a while it comes back and a quick crouch/uncrouch fixes it.

Hope this helps someone
Peace

THIS! THIS! THIS!

You are a genius Torment!

[For me on VIVE the crouch button was right (dominant hand) pad,
after selecting HYBRID mode in accessibility settings]

Ok so the only way i fixed it was by going back to an old save before the glitch that seemed to fix it so if it's not to late go to an old save

Happened to me as well. I will randomly end up floating 2' above the floor. Only in Alyx. Driving me nuts and as the OP said, totally ruins the game experiance.

Sett hybrid mode in the game: Settings->Accessibility, then pressing on the middle of the left pad to crouch, then again to stand and I'm good to go.

Still a problem 3 years later stuff like this is why VR is not taking off instead of focusing on rubbish like the metaverse they should be focusing on streamlining the VR experience.

I think that I know what is happenning to you is not a bug is that that you crouched by using the button and then you moved up. That makes Alyx being higer than normal and creating the feel of flying over the floor. Is very noticable when being crouched.

Just press the correct button to uncrouch and you will resume the correct high.
