The game is well optimised in the way that it's great at utilizing all of your hardware, far more than most games. But, if you don't have enough system resources for it to use it will run terribly (and you don't).
So yeah you would need a new build to play the game, though you can still hang on to that 1070 :)
Would it run? Yeah, sure - but it would be a terrible, stuttery, mess.
@LUCAS so you've tryed with i5 6400 and DDR3L @1600mhz ?
No problem with low, since it seems to be gorgeous anyway!
I doubt it, I think he's underestimating the importance of RAM bandwidth in Alyx. Many people who were posting here with problems with performance found out that they were running their RAM speed at 2133 or lower. Those running at 1600mhz and lower found the game unplayable.
I myself disabled Dual Channel on my 3200mhz RAM, running at 1600mhz, to see what it was like and I agree it is unplayable.
Adjusting settings doesn't reduce the games need for memory bandwidth either, so you can't scrape by on low settings.
You don't have to take my word for it either, you can find a ton of posts on here saying the same thing.
So even if CPU is under, I guess it can run on it.
BUT I read here and there that DDR3 could be a problem, because of frequency, and wanted to be sure of that by comparing if someone already tried that out over here.
To be honest, I'm planning to buy a headset (mainly for that game) so I can't even give a shot to the game and refound if it doesn't work ...
Yeah, that's the point i was worrying about ...
READ 17363MByte/s
WRITE 23056MBytes/s
COPY 20603MBytes/s
LATENCY 77.8ns
Which numbers are important here ?
What do you think ?
Hey noob! Lower gens of DDR have tighter timings which make up for a lot of the bandwidth that would have been lost, should it just be the same exact thing with faster speeds somehow. (Like you think).
This will be playable on DDR3 1600mhz (uh there a ****load of i5s\DDR3 playing the game herr durr) itll be playable at 2133mhz as long as the CPU... wait it even works on FX-6300\8350 too so you dont even need a relevant CPU (though the older Intel i cores wont work)
Have a good day! Sorry you wasted your time downloading pointless software that nobody really uses. Id probably watch your malware cleaner!
I have to say sorry about suggesting maxxmem2, it doesn't appear to be giving reliable benches anymore for some reason. I used to use it to some success... Or maybe it always was bad! Not dangerous though, as my friend Timmy suggests. Best tool for checking your memory bandwidth, if you want to, remains AIDA64 (though you have to pay to see your results). Maybe there's other good software out there for it, but I'm not aware of it.
