[Linux] Firing the pistol causes the game to crash
I've been trying to play the native Linux version of the game. The game works fine up until the point where Russel gives you the pistol. Once I fire the pistol two or three times, my entire system (except for the mouse cursor) freezes. Once that happens, I'm not even able to open a TTY. What I am able to do is SSH into the machine, and logout. I've been using the following command to logout of my desktop session:
$ qdbus org.kde.ksmserver /KSMServer logout 0 3 3
(This command works for Plasma 5. I don't know if it will work for other desktop environments)

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to fix this?

I updated to 20.0.8 and the problem is not happening anymore.
I used PPA (ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/updates).
It could be an update of Alyx as well, but i havent tested that before upgrading.

Install Win10 Pro. Then all your games will work and you don't have to faff about with a bunch of cryptic command-line jargon.

Intel pretty much built the modern linux kernel. Intel has created their own linux distro called Clear Linux. Guess what Intel uses to actually run their mission-critical business? Windows 10. Take a lesson from Intel. Don't be a neckbeard.

+1, wish these microsoft fanboys would get a life
but what is the point of clear linux if intel just relies on windows? :liemoji_yoba:

You probably already checked this. Game files integrity good?

The moral of the story is Linux sucks.

I did already try that, but thanks for asking. I tried verifying the files again, but the game still crashes.

Yeah, I have this same issue. What's your video card? I've got a Radeon 5700 XT

I am seeing the same thing and have a 5700. Updated to a 5.6 kernel and now can shoot a few times before it crashes.

Running Kubuntu 20.04, updated to Mesa 20.1.1 and kernel 5.5.19. No problems with firing the pistol. Played for a couple of hours without any issues.

How did you do the update? Did you use a PPA?
