Crashing constantly, please HELP! (Log included)
I've been unable to play HL:Alyx for more than 20 min at a time without:
Code: -6001 -- ovrError_TextureSwapChainFull
Description: There is no room in the texture swapchain to accept more frames.
OVRTime: 1320.166955

crashing my game. The game crashing always results in a computer restart and I cant figure out the cause of it. I've tried everything and even reinstalled SteamVR (also tried the beta), and reinstalled HL:Alyx but no luck. This has never happened to any of my other VR games, its just this one. If anyone has any ideas on how to remedy this issue please help me!

Radeon VII
DDR4 3200mhz RAM
250GB SSD
2TB HDD

Does reducing your texture quality reduce the length of time it takes for the restart to happen?

Not from what I’ve observed, funnily enough the Ultra preset allows me to play for ~3 more minutes than usual

Well, ovrError_TextureSwapChainFull is not an error from the game itself, it from SteamVR. I wouldn't look at the game as a cause for the issue, rather it's surfaced an underlying issue.

Are you using ReVive at all? If you are, completely uninstall it. It has the ability to cause this issue under certain conditions.

Various SteamVR plugins are often cause for random issues like this, it's worth uninstalling them when you get unexpected ovr errors.

If that doesn't help, you'll wanna go into the SteamVR menu and create a system report. Head to the logs tab, and save the log to the clipboard, and save the text to a file, and then check it out. It should contain your last crash, which will be the one you mentioned.

If you need help deciphering your log you can post it here.

I had crash issues with only this game. Turned out to be XMP related turning it off stopped crashes. No issues anywhere else / any other game but i guess something about this game just doesnt like it or pushes any instability

After turning XMP back on for other games, you'll wanna run MemTest64 to check stability. It's most likely an underlying stability issue that the game just surfaced.

That was the last bit of the log that actually details the crash. Regarding ReVive, I dont have it installed

Not running a XMP or DOCP setting currently, but thats a good catch!

I stopped playing because the game keeps crashing, freezing the scene in my headset and causing extreme nausea that I can still feel for an hour plus after it occurs. Happens so many times in a row that I was sick all night. I gave up until they patch this crap and the thing is actually playable.

SteamVR beta has some fixes for Alyx if you didn't yet try that.

Yeah finally gave up last night, freezes in Rift S headset and the frozen screen still tracks with my head, can hear game continuing in the background. Doesn’t crash my pc, just freezes game, every single time I play it. Sometimes 7-8 mins into playing, sometimes within seconds. No other steam or oculus games do it, just Alyx. Not enough room to list what I’ve tried to do to fix it, so frustrating .
