Not sure. I'd say 12+

i don't know what the actual rating is but i can tell you that nothing particularly bad is said in it and the game is about as violent as your average call of duty game and not much more than that. i would say 13 and up would be fine as my personal judgement.

it's rated M

well the game is rated M for mature, lots of blood and gore, not much aside from that to be truthful

Every single HL game has been rated M. I find it a little insane some people said "oh there's nothing bad in this" excuse me, have you glanced at the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GORED CORPSES WITH GUTS HANGING OUT MY DUDE?!

Certainly no one below 14 should play it, but I think a fear rating is probably more important. Some adults may not be able to handle it. Certainly there are scarier games out there, but the VR immersion greatly amplifies the fear, particularly the sequences in the dark with a small flashlight.

100%
Plus personally I think the presence in a VR game makes your actions much relatable. ie. potentially more harmful or desensitizing.
Also the scare, horror aspects are much more vivid in VR - and there is plenty of that on HLA.

Original Half-Lifes are PEGI 16 in Europe, for HLA I cannot find anything but looking at peers I think it would be PEGI 18 / ESRB M without doubt.

But what is quite interesting is that the game has been out almost a year and there it shows up neither in PEGI nor in ESRB searches. Are those not mandatory or a thing anymore?

this is the beauty of steam, any game can be released without needing to be rated by the BBFC, PEGI or ESRB beforehand as Steam is more private than Sony or Microsoft

There's a lot of violence in it so I would judge it as 15+ (age). There's no sexual content or bad language that I can remember.
i think there might be one Sh1t in it, maybe? lol, i forget. definitely not much.

yeah I find it peculiar that Steam gets away with it in Europe. Here in Finland (and I think many EU contries) the convention is to rely on PEGI ratings. It is not mandatory but having _some_ ratings seems to be. Below a section from gameslaw.org

Peculiar.

"Enforceability and Sanctions
Regulation on enforceability has been introduced in the UK, which requires a rating for games only suitable for age 12 or higher, and entirely prohibits the sale of such games without a rating. In the Netherlands, selling or renting games classified as 16+ or higher to younger persons constitutes a criminal offence (Art. 240a Wetb. v. Strafr.). Just recently , France also made ratings for games mandatory. In Austria, regulations differ between the federal states.

Ratings in Germany
German law is rather strict when it comes to age ratings. For these, youth protection authorities rely on age classifications provided by the USK , a self-regulation body established by the games industry. Video games are rated in five categories: “without age restriction”, 6+, 12+, 16+ and “without clearance for minors” (i.e. 18+)."

This is according to google but in reality this game hasn’t been officially rated by the ESRB.
I started playing valve games when I was about 5, but this game can get a about a 13 cuz it's gory
