Terrible stuttering as soon as I reached chapter 8
Until chapter 8 the game ran just fine (50-90fps), but for some reason, the game crashed when I reached chapter 8 and now, no matter which save file I load up, the loading takes 3 minuted more than it used to and the game runs at anywhere between 1-6fps.
Does anyone know what might have happend?

Specs (I know the specs are lower than the minimum requirements but the game ran pretty well for a while):
GTX 1650 Super
intel core i5-6400 2.7Ghz
8gb ddr4
HP WMR HMD

Have you tried to load the chapter instead of a save file? It's possible something got stuck in a physics loop inside a wall or something that is causing physics processing overload. This would persist through the entire chapter potentially since it's all a single level. This would also be saved by the game. Loading the chapter itself would undo this by resetting everything. It would at least let you see if thats the issue.

Based on your very low system specs, you would be very susceptible to this happening, and would perfectly explain your drop into the single digits. (It would drop even my rig into the low double digits.)

PS: Also 8GB of ram may be your issue as well as Bilbo mentioned, 8GB of ram is no longer enough ram for modern games in many cases. And the game may not have needed more than 8GB till you hit a chapter that did.

Perhaps your save file got borked. Start a new game, and choose to start from chapter 8. Perhaps you will be fine and it's just a bug! I hope so.

But, it's likely that chapter 8 is needing more than your 8GB of RAM, there's a reason that the min spec calls for more. What's most likely happening is the game has had to fall back into your pagefile for virtual RAM and it's craaaazy slow to do that. Your only likely solution is to close anything in the background eating RAM resources.

I have a similar issue and I have 32GB of RAM and am running the game off an SSD. So that can't be the issue.

It seems that chapter 8 has a higher ram requirement than the other chapters since after I beat it at 30fps the rest of the game ran extremely well (60-90fps)

Is Chapter 8 the one with Jeff? I also had a lot of lag there (half my normal frame rate) and that was with 32gb DDR4 RAM and a 2080 Super. That area is just extremely taxing for some reason.

No, it's the one right after Jeff (the one in the zoo)
exact same problem here

I think I'll wait for patch 1.3 ...and stop playing... I've had case's where, I've just exited it..because the performance was just not good. I dropped it down 60hz, at low..yet the studders are still there, others are complaining with much better GPU's..RX570 would be my limiting factor, but 60hz it should be fine.
