Issue with textures always switching to super low-res?
I've been playing the game with an Oculus Quest + Link cable on an i5-8400, 32gb of RAM and a GTX 1080 with 8gb of VRAM.

The game is running smoothly and it defaulted to the High performance settings (I think that's what it's called? The second to last preset).

I have noticed that, since the first patch, the textures will randomly switch from normal high-res to super low res all the time.

For example, the walls looked like this today:

Then a few seconds later they went back to normal higher res look... To then go back to that muddy mess a few seconds later. It just switches all the time from one to the other.

Anybody else have seen this issue and knows a fix?

I already have the latest NVIDIA drivers and I make sure that there's nothing else using too much ressources on my pc in the background while playing....

I just noticed this starting with the update released today. Previously no issues, now everything goes to low-resolution right away. GTX 2060

Well I'm not sure what did it exactly but looks like my texture bug is fixed!

All in all I:
1-Updated SteamVR to the beta branch
2-Disabled the NVIDIA Overlay
3-Disabled the Steam Overlay
4-Restarted the Oculus services
5-Verified the game files (they verified ok and nothing was re-downloaded afaik)

One of those did the trick lol... Not sure which one...

I think when you go into the custom settings, there's a message that says the game will still dynamically set the texture quality (as well as other settings) to keep the game running smoothly.

Yeah mine resolved itself too. I didn't have to do anything with NVIDIA or Steam settings, I just had to close and reopen the game and steam a couple times, or maybe restart my PC. Back to persistent high-res textures :-)

I'm having this issue too but it has persisted through multiple resets. I tried verifying game files as as saw mentioned on a reddit thread but that didn't help (successfully verified). Sometimes the proper textures snap in but often they don't and it just stays blurry for a while. Almost always fixes when a new level loads, but not necessarily when loading a saved game. Anyone else have this issue and figured out a fix?

Same problem for me but only in some games or apps. Most things work fine but for example the Half Life Alyx environment in steamVR home has very low textures and they get worse when I go closer to a wall.

16 GB RAM
I hope there is a fix for this :(

I'm suddenly getting this issue as well on 3070. I was playing just fine last week, no updates to anything, now 10 hours into a new game and the texture stay low no matter what level they are set to...

Been having this issue probably a week after I got my new pc and started playing this again, I have disabled tons of things, as mentioned by Mega, nothing has worked but I am validating the files again and will be disabling the steam overlay.

My specs:
GTX 1660 TI
32GB RAM
Intel Core i5-9400F CPU 2.90GHz

My FPS is normally stable at ultra-graphics, the only problem for me is the textures not at high res or just grey out and don't load at all.

My guess it's the video memory running low, but I believe mine is 6GB, so it shouldn't be rendering super low-quality textures. Hopefully someone has a fix for this, will edit back if the 2 things I am doing will work.

My last guess if verifying the files doesn't work, is that I have it installed on a 1TB external drive, could be a factory to the low quality but I highly doubt it since all my other games on the external drive run perfect.

[UPDATE: Verifying the games' files seemed to work, all the textures are loaded and high resolution, not too sure what next if it continued to randomly drop resolution but it worked right now.

Hi, I have the same problem. After validating the file, it resolve for 10 secondes and then texture starter to dissappear.

Source 2 can have an issue with texture pool size, as show in this video

https://youtu.be/eGLINd5IxRM

But, this can also happen if you are simply asking to much from the game (ie the game can no longer drop it's render resolution for you)

I've typed up a huge breakdown of issues and fixes and general tune up how to optimise your resolution/game settings here:
