The Bot AI is a shame
As good as the game is, the bot AI for the zombies and soldiers ruins it. Slow reacting, the path finding is pretty bad around corners. Get a bit under preasure? No problem just hide behind some bigger obstacles. You have endless time to reload all your stuff. Sometimes you can even hide behind a wire fence. I was sitting right in front of a soldier and only a wire fence was in between us. I looked the soldier in his face for a minute. He aimed at me, talked stuff and then he just went away. Sadly this happened a couple of times. Valve plz fix!

Yeah, it is terrible, even worse than in a HL2, i thought game supposed to be revolutionary "masterpiece"

I did find it strange playing the game and thinking about Gabe had been talking about AI being the next big thing in game design. The AI in Alyx is worse than HL2, which was worse than HL1...
yeah but he was talking about true ai and not bot ai

At least they stayed with their roots. They never knew how to code a bot^^
On hard it was still harder than HL2 and I did die a few times.

But it seems they held back on stuff basically because a lot of people playing this will be new to VR.

I've watched some youtube vids, Gaint Bombs Jeff Gerstmann literally got confused when Russel threw the gun on the car, didn't know to pull down the wooden planks and couldn't open a door.

It was baffling, I was actually wondering at one point if he was deliberately doing it in an attempt to make VR look bad.

Isn't that the point of the game starting so slow though? So if it is your first VR experience, you are comfortable by the time you get to the torch section and you actually have to be able to play somewhat competently.

Also, funny that Jeff struggled, he played through Boneworks, which is orders of magnitude more demanding.
If they made more tactical AI, this game's difficulty would've turned up to 11. The AI [lack of] intelligence is almost certainly intentional. You are manually aiming a gun in VR. In kmb, you are pointing and clicking with perfect accuracy/mechanics. They HAVE to make it easier

HL2 never had good AI. HL1's was much better.

Don't agree with that .. well don't disagree either..ya I know i am confusing at times. I find all VR games to easy. I am playing it on Hard and while its ok its not hard. Sure make the game have difficulty levels but make hard freaking hard for crying out loud. I find it much easier to aim in VR than with a mouse. Shooting from side while moving to cover. Its the one thing I wish they would stop doing is making these things to easy . I love the game and still give it a 10/10 but that is the only thing I wish would change and one reason I can not wait for the editor. I can at least put a whole lot of enemies in.

This is false, HL1 AI was objectively worse, it just moved faster with higher damage output.

There is no 'objectively' about it. Whichever you consider to be the most fun to fight is better.

And the answer would easily be HL alyx.

HL1 AI is non existant they simply move on a rail,
Hl2 Ai is even more non existant, most of the time they stand and just shoot at you.
hl Alyx, is far from perfect, limited in movement space, but within their space they do somewhat react to you.

and just btw AI is a very neglected thing in shooters anyway, there is litearlly only 2 games with good AI, and that´s Fear and Stalker.

The difficulty of this game is artificial. You can't bullet sponge the way you do in other games, and you can't move around because it's a beginners game (edit: unless you're teleporting effectively, which can be fun in its own way).

I share pretty much every complaint here, but still loved the game overall... But I won't be able to look past this in the future.

Not sure what game everyone is playing... if you peak the combine for more than 2 seconds they start continuously firing until you die. At least, that's been my experience on the default / normal difficulty. If I land some headshots I can stagger them but that gets a little harder at range and I've died maybe 3 times to them now because they just unload their automatic weapon at me with perfect accuracy.

As for zombies, they are easy to fight because... that's probably what most people would expect from a zombie. A slow shambler not even really coming at you, it's the headcrab sloppily trying to drive a human body. It's no surprise to me that they move so awkwardly and slowly.

As for the headcrabs themselves, I'll try not to give any spoilers. There are varieties of them and some had much more complex movement. I'm not too upset by the more basic enemy varieties having slow ai. Are basic headcrabs meant to be apex predators? Seems like they would be most successful as ambush predators.

I really fear they noobified the game too much. I get it, you wanna make it easy for newcomers. But please also make it challenging for experienced players looking for a fast-paced and immersive experience. Being able to easily corner the AI breaks that immersion. I want to feel like I need to fight for my life and I will practice VR before heading into this to be able to play the game fast-paced.

It's a matter of options. Options always solves these kind of problems. One-fit-all solutions never work for anyone.

I also don't like the idea of teleporting around. I wanna run throughout the game with the joystick and perhaps use the teleport in non-combat scenarios as this would just be equivalent to how a movie skips forward in time. But teleporting around during compat like you're The Flash or some X-man is just silly.

I wanna run, Volvo.
