Bad Performance in Chapter 7. aka Jeff

Anyone else? The game ran pretty well up till this mission for me. I got the occasional stutter or hitch but in Chapter 7 it got bad.

Same, the mist and particules created by jeff and the spore things seems to be the culprit. I have to switch to low to get no stuttering... I have a decent rig 2080 and 8600. Did you find a solution?

I just trudged through it. I have a 1070 and a i7 8700k and the rest of the game ran beautifully.

Nothing compared to chapter 8 and onwards

Had zero problems myself with Jeff on a ryzen 3900x, 1080Ti, and vive pro, but I definitely saw someone with a pretty good machine see some frame drops while streaming it. It's the most taxing chapter for sure

Yes, it is definitely the most taxing chapter in the game. I've heard from a couple of places that it has more physics objects (e.g. bottles) in that one single map than in the entirety of HL2. Surprisingly, the entire chapter takes place on a single map, putting it at a disadvantage as far as performance goes; being able to separate things in your chapter into different maps has a really good performance boost, but they didn't want to have loading screens placed as often as HL1 had them. With Source 2's loading times, people wouldn't be very happy.

Setting r_drawparticles 0 fixes the problem for the current level because Jeff produces a lot of particles
