Items Disappearing when Out of View
Original Post:
Is anybody else having this bug? Whenever I set something down and turn around, it's gone when I turn back around to grab it. It seems to affect syringes.

Funny side note, this bug seems to also restock grenade cabinets when you look away from them. https://imgur.com/7azjAtp

EDIT:
I've figured it out. There is a section in Chapter 4 where you are supposed to lob a grenade through a vent to open a room. The cabinet continually respawns the grenades until you successfully make the throw, and this respawning trigger is causing certain player dropped items in the area to reset to their original location.

The disappearing items are because of the game resetting player items. The grenades are intentional, the disappearing items must be a bug.

Be aware of this if you set anything down during this section in Chapter 4. They will be unloaded and returned to the previous location. This is most likely not intended, and would seem to be a bug with this section.

Haven’t run into this yet personally. I’ve carried things through loading screens and beyond and not had them vanish even when I set them down to do things. Are they maybe falling through the floor or something? I had a bicycle do that and take my hand with it once, lol.

I had set a syringe down on a nearby chair and walked away, when I came back it was gone. So I took out another one and set it down, and sure enough the same thing happened. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of bug with how the game handles unloading and loading objects that are out of view, it doesn't seem to be saving their position and state, which is why infinite grenades.
Hmm odd, as I’ve set down multiple syringes with no issues when I come back for them. Perhaps that chair is the issue or something. Or maybe it’s just a bug in a certain area I haven’t been yet. I haven’t gotten grenades yet, I’m just a bit past the shotgun. There were infinite grenade chests in previous games so that particular bit may be intentional.

I hadn't, but now I realize what the grenades remind me of.
Measuring tape, it felt strange throwing measuring tape at combines.

Never had this bug, but my headset was messed up this morning when i tried to enter steam vr. Had to unplug it and replug to get it working again. Not sure if alyx caused it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is an area related bug. I've had a couple of those. The grenade cabinets in the other areas did not have this behavior, but if it's a trigger for a certain scene then maybe it could also be accidentally resetting other equipment items in the area.

Ah ok good to know.

I did run into something somewhat similar early in the game when you first see the zombies and you are working your way through the train to the room with a bunch of them. I shot them all through the train windows but when I exited the train they were all back and the bodies were gone. I bet if I had dropped an item outside the window it would have been gone too. It’s probably because of triggers in certain spots expecting an area to be a certain way and if it isn’t then it gets reset, yea. Hopefully they do something about that but to be honest it isn’t a major issue to me personally, but it would be nice to have persistent instances where you don’t need to worry about triggers messing with it.

On a lighter note, I now have a crate with about 50 grenades in it to take with me.

Edit:
I spoke too soon.
This crashed the game rofl

🤣🤣🤣 lol yea I’m sure there’s a limit on how many physics objects a pc can handle lol. Apparently you passed it by a bit haha. Would be nice to have that arsenal in a pinch though :P

It's like they didn't think people would try to carry buckets of grenades around...
